SWA has good payrates, but their workrules are what really bring in the bacon. DAL C2K rates were very good , but my understanding is the workrules enabled excellent W2 earnings and QOL without being an Airwho..e and working yourself to death.

YMMV,

Good point. Scope, work rules, pay.

DPA claims 3539 members now. They put 6500 as the goal although that's 50%+.

Anyone know if DPA is reducing the count for expired cards? Based on their complete lack of transparency (can't enter most of their website unless you sign a card), I don't trust them to be honest with the card count.

Why do you even care? Send in your card and find out, unless you are scared of competition you should be OK by doing so.

Reminds me of a quote from "The Matrix":

Agent Smith: "You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson..."
Neo: "My name... is Neo."

Ahem... You can't enter most of ALPA's website unless you're a member. Pot meet kettle.

If you're going to throw stones, try not to throw them like that 3rd grader writing those anti-DPA blogs.

The card count will be meaningless soon. I imagine everything hinges on the lawsuit(s) if conversation sampling with FDX and UCAL pilots is accurate.

The other major carriers members in ALPA are also watching closely toward the final award in the TWA DFR suit.

No one wants to be assessed for that gross misjudgement. Sad thing is, I can only speculate that the Major Contingency Fund/War Chest will be one of the first things that vaporizes and is monetized if the award sticks and the liens start flying. Once again, all rooted in vanity and greed

Don't know about expired cards but yes to people who change their minds. The membership total dropped by 17 cards in a 3 day period recently, but was back up by over 100 for that same week as new cards outpaced folks who changed their minds.

Without being a member, there is much to be read and seen to decide if you want to become a member. The stuff you can't see is stuff you wouldn't possibly be interested in unless you were already a member. It's a good strategy on DPA's part. For people like you who aren't interested, there is no reason to give you full access to an organization you have no desire to ever join.

Yet you trust ALPA after trying to bust their own in-house union and after what they did to the TWA pilots?

Ok then.

You may be right, but I wish it wouldn't come down to the TWA lawsuit to make our judgment call about the DPA. 30% of the pilot group going through the hoops of turning in a DPA card is a big deal, and a pollster would tell you that there is likely 3 times that many people who have similar beliefs. I cannot imagine how low the card count would be if ALPA needed to have an affirmative card count for their continued presence on our property. I fly with no 744 pilots who aren't already DPA members. When I jumpseat or meet other non-744 pilots who aren't DPA members, they tell me they've never heard of the DPA. After explaining what the DPA is, they always ask me for the website address.

Thought I had a tough one the other day while I was jumpseating with an LAX crew. The F/O was already a member (bag tag), but the Captain was wearing an ALPA lanyard. I decided to bring up the DPA tenderly and with respect to the Captain pointing out my noticing his ALPA lanyard. He said: "Oh no, I'm already a DPA member...I just needed a new lanyard and these were out in LAX."
