oh but they did. several carriers thrust idle open descended straight into the ground and killed people.
this is what happens when you have 2 yr upgrades. guys in the right seat just arent seeing different methods and techniques enough and then go to the left seat. if you are already a capt and you haven't seen someone do that then you weren't fo long enough.

Try jumpseating on AA's bus and watch some of the stuff they do. I am talking about the American side, not USAir. It can be very entertaining.

Recall 2 occasions when the guys couldn't make out what the "plane was doing" while in managed decent on the STAR. Both times they just went back into their comfort zone of vertical speed, and pulled for it. This was the American side. However many Airways pilots went from years in the left seat of the 737 to the left seat in the A320...so where is this "experience with particular aircraft techniques" that "Gangsta Moose" says is crucial to have?
"Gangsta Moose" would have us believe that if you havent seen something in the left seat, you haven't spent enough time in the right seat...stories like these kind of take the credibility from his position.

Who does this? Really? What?

You know-
I've decided, for the most part, I don't really care what the new guy (girl) in the right seat chooses..... There's more than one way to skin a cat- and no better way to learn which fits when than to skin all the cats..... When the power comes up and speedbrakes are out.... The ECAM ding ALWAYS scares 'em..... (Fairly entertaining) and then they don't do that again.....

My all time favorite - DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS - was the guy who would activate the approach just as he got on the STAR, and changed VAPP to the different crossing speeds rather than letting FiFi do its thing. It worked, sort of, but he couldn't tell me WHY he did that particular technique or HOW he came up with it when I asked at the gate. Just WOW some days.
Side note - We ought to figure out some slick way to fit FUPM into the Low Tier pilot moniker. Some acronym to blend a special ALPA committee, FUPM and Low Tier into something that they can't make us take off our bags, and will generate some customer interest. I've been thinking about something around unbundling my services like they've unbundled their fares too.

Because managing climb then selecting .75 will pull engine power back and result in a very slow climb. Just put the aircraft headset (that the other 99% use) back into the jack and take the trash bag out and have a nice day. A gradual climb at 800 or 1000 fpm will get you more for your energy at higher altitudes sometimes, just watch your speed and dont let it decay too much. Slowing in open climb will give you a momentary zoom and then go to straight and level....at least let the controllers see some sort of average rate.

Classic! Would love to see the looks on Bendo's and Jyri's faces when the NC slides a proposal over to them based on our unbundled service fees for contacting Ops, dispatch, Mx, gate agents, fuelers, new paperwork, IT, payroll.....,,
Then higher fee for flying it like the company wants us to vs how we want to. No extra fuel, 200%.
