The guy who is about to be senior enough at CAL to hold EWR 737 Captain suddenly finds himself years from the left seat using DOH or ratio, which certainly has a negative impact on his career expectations. That is going to be uglier than the problem we're grappling with at DAL-NWA for sure.
I see what you are getting at but since there is no national seniority list that should not happen. And while there is no way to make everyone happy relative seniority seems the fairest way to go. By straight DOH junior CAL captains would be crushed- lets hope by that time there will be some lessons learned from the current DAL-NWA fiasco.

That is why relative seniority is the way to go.

I disagree. With relative seniority my hire group, (1987), would be placed within the 1993-95 hires at UAL using relative seniority while CAL's 1997-2004 hires will get in front of UAL's '96-97 hires.

I disagree. To level career expectations, United plans to staple the bottom third of the CAL list. JK

Yeah, that's hilarious. Let's do that. Since I would expect to have a terrible career at UAL, let's throw me on the bottom 1/3 there. At least my expectations would be met. I'm quite sure no one here wants UAL anymore than DAL guys wanted NWA. We all would've been better off seeing who would emerge from this mess based on competition instead. Why should I be penalized for working at a company that's making money and afforded me the opportunity of wide-body flying from the get-go? It is very depressing that we might have to combine with a flawed business model with poor management. Even worse is that we will be left with no choice, or be left out in the cold.

So, instead of being lucky you must be one of the few good airline pilots. I mean you have to be good to plan your life so as to get hired with the airline that does all of these great things for you from the get-go.

Might I remind you that 10 years ago United was THE premiere airline to work for. Widebody flying from the got-go? They were putting new hires into the 747-400 based in Honolulu and you would have jumped at the chance to work for them. Especially after they got that HUGE contract in 2000.

I think you would be better served by realizing that nothing in this business remains the same.

I'm reminded of a s/o I flew with who in the early 60's left American for a chance to fly for Braniff (The first one)....

Bob Seger relax. The point of the above post was how laughingly pathetic our career control is. WE ALL HAVE/HAD expectations before the fleecing. Plus, I come from an Eastern family and have seen more than one of these cycles. Good luck and get off your pony.

The problem would be that I'm being mixed in with Pilots that were hired a full 5-7 years after I was. Also the UAL types hired in 1997 would be pulling gear for CAL guys hired 5-7 years behind them.
