For Jr FOs who what to be furloughed rather than give up 8 hours pay, consider what the furlough will do to your longevity. It’s cutting future pay.

The majority of the 900’s are 79 seaters.

Assuming you are going to stay at Mesa for more than 6 years that would be something to consider, I agree. I like the thinking outside the box. Mainline will begin hiring in the next 30-36 months, or sooner.

However, most of the FO’s will move on in short order once they can transition to the left seat and get a few hours. The furloughed pilots will be back within 18 months, if not sooner. No one has gotten letters for furlough in the mail or email yet. It appears that they company very well could be bluffing. Why would they not give 14 days notice per PWA? Would be weird of them to furlough mid month, or after Oct 1st. Could be possible. We shall see one more day from now.

UPS is still hiring pilots if you have the 1000 PIC. Good amount of jobs on LinkedIn right now, just not Part 121 jobs.

Who cares about longevity when you're out of the obligation to pay back the Bonus.

When hiring restarts, go to Republic or Skywest, where pay is 25% higher, and also per diem 20% higher compared to Mesa.

Not only that, but you then stay at real hotels. No more La Quintas or Comfort Inns.

WIN - WIN!

Going to the left seat your pay is based on company longevity.

Yes, you are correct. What I’m saying is new people are not here at Mesa for the pay and benefits of being in the top 300 global. People are here to get their hours and leave. Your argument on longevity only matters significantly if you plan to stay at mesa as a career. Most of us will never be in the top 300.

This is why I am voting NO. Released from bonus and after that you can go wherever you want once hiring begins again. 0-24 months of seniority isn’t really that big of a game changer. Now if I had 10 years or more, that would be a different story. We are at the bottom, where it doesn’t really matter if we leave or not. Hiring will resume and companies will be fighting for pilots again.

Speaking of junior FOs.

J.O. can very well cut your salary even more by exercising our lovely PWA contract:

Any FO hired in 2019 could lose another $249 or $319 per month on top of the 8 hours lost. Depending when you were hired in the year.

Don't believe me? Check the FO pay rates in the PWA.

68 x $31.31 = $2129
68 x $34.34 = $2335

J.O. wanted this in the pay rates, as he anticipated a down turn.

You've been lucky so far!

Union rejected a 15% across the board pay raise in exchange for a 1 year extension of the PWA last year. Heard it straight from the source on the van heading to the hotel.
