This happens at every airline.
Our ratchety FAs have contract language that says they get a microwave and fridge in their rooms, or something like that. Sooooooo...guess what? Most NICE hotels (like 4+ star properties--Marriott/Hilton-grade) don't have microwaves/fridges in all of their rooms (like budget/Microtel-style hotels).
End result--we end up in Microtels/LaQuintas/budget hotels. Partly because flight attendants go crazy if they don't have a microwave in their room to heat up their canned beans/disgusting mac & cheese from QuikTrip.
I recently witnessed two of my FAs going crazy on the DoubleTree TUL in a hissy fit b/c they didn't have any rooms with microwaves in them (the front desk pointed out there are microwaves in the business center/lounge which anyone is free to use anytime).
We also recently lost the Wyndham PIT--and are now in a DAYS INN--all because some IAD FAs being ratchet ghetto thugs with the Wyndham van driver for not taking them somewhere to eat late at night. Ughhhhhhhhh.
The PIT Wyndham wasn't the best hotel in the system, but it was at least tolerable/reasonable. But now we're in a 1-star ghetto Days Inn--awesome, FAs! Thanks! THANKS.

All me me me ... What of the collective group that would like points at a decent chain or the group that would like a clean room. Better yet a certain level of comfort, safety, and quiet that should be awarded airline crews. What about a real breakfast and or a restaurant that provides free breakfast or a voucher for healthy breakfasts? How about a fitness center or one that can help maintain a healthy and somewhat fit workforce. Happiness breeds healthiness and vice versa. Think about things beyond yourself and your measley "save a buck" methods. Methods that you carry out because of definitive poverty level that you have attained and a me me me attitude that Mesa breeds.
FYI - there is a reason hotels have ratings and rankings and stars. There are defined differences between every level. From small to big differences. Basically you are saying that a 1 Star hotel/motel is perfectly fine for everyone because it's fine for you.

We don't stay at one-star motels. I've never stayed in a motel at Mesa. If you're that concerned about the happiness of our collective group, then why are you posting complain-ey, depressing garbage in the Mesa thread? We work for a ultra lean operating airline. Considering that, I'd say the hotels are acceptable. I'd tell you to quit and go work elsewhere, but our seniority system makes that a difficult decision. Is seniority best for the "collective group"? What about the fact that third year FOs make more than second year FOs? Doesn't seem that great for the group either. Even the TA vote, which, considering the present value of a raise now, year over year, compared to what we might expect in, say, five years, was an irrational choice from a monetary standpoint. The whole group, union, brotherhood, idea among airline pilots is a lie. I try to post reasonable info about Mesa on this thread to counter the young, new (seems like) pilots who come here to puke on their keyboards and press submit.

Ramada Sarasota was a motel.... Some of the Mesa hotels are totally acceptable, without a doubt. Most of the Holiday Inns, DFW Marriott, IND, DAY, etc are fine. But when I see where my buddies at the other regionals stay, its a slap in the face to us as a pilot group when we stay at a Microtel for 24 hours with no restaurants within a mile. Sure there are a bunch of good restaurants around the CLT hotel, but there are also a bunch of better hotels right around there too. I think there is too many pilots who just have given up on hope that the hotels will get better, and thats really unfortunate. PSA management sent an email to their pilot group saying that they would no longer be staying in Choice Hotel brands, because the quality is not where they should be. At Mesa, every month we seem to be staying at more. Why are they not good enough for other regionals, but at Mesa its acceptable. It shouldn't be like that guys!

Down with Microtel and the like, **** those places. But since you mention Ramada Sarasota, that had to be the nicest motel I've ever stayed at. Sincerely. I don't know if you meant it disparagingly or not. Maybe I just got a good room.

Which is something that has to be negotiated in the hotel contracts. Most other airlines work out a deal that lands a discount for crew members at the hotel restaurant. There is no reason we can't pursue the same here at YV.

Might I raise you ABQ and ELP. I will say this, PHX overnights in general involve better quality hotels than the other domiciles in my experience. I presume this is because of the high percentage of lifers in PHX.

I had one FA complain about the free food at Midland... Good thing we weren't at Midland at the time, slap an aisle donkey.

Yes, all the hotels could be better, but what's awful about either of those? They're just budget hotels. ABQ is fine and has Dion's right next door, plus a couple other restaurants, and ELP is two seconds from the airport and is also a clean economy hotel (with crappy internet). You can leave ELP five minutes before show time and be on time.
