Quote: Today I was trying to pick up open time. I was able to select the trips I wanted on Flica, but after a couple of hours I got denied because one of them touched the last 7 days of the bid period. I went back to the request board and noticed that all of the trips on the last 7 days of the bidding period were no longer selectable. Crew Line Adjustment told me I could try again after the 23rd. Can someone please explain to me the bidding schedule when it comes to picking up open time? Is this because they are building the next month pairings right now and they donīt want too many people picking up carryover trips?
Section 13. Bidding timeline. Flica us shut down for anything that touches the last 7 days from the 12th through the 23rd
So, iad went incredibly junior, and they didn't fill the 12 captain spots. Either there was no one else willing to go to Dulles or they reduced the captain vacancy.

People are holding out for EJet CA, resulting in essentially street upgrades for ppl w 1,000 121.

I'm pretty surprised the company isn't already advertising "street captains" in recruitment ads--do we have an abbreviated syllabus for rated CRJ pilots? Seems like it'd be a smart move for Mesa to put that together.
Quote: Worked out great for the wholly owned guys/gals at comair and continental Expressjet. Great job security and value.
I do get your perspective though--if I were at Comair or Eagle for any amount of time between 2000 and 2012, I'd probably be completely dismissive of wholly-owneds as career options as well. IIRC Eagle was even pulling ppl out of their non-rev system if they called off sick in an outstation! Every place has its pros & cons--I have to remember that I suppose.

It just sucks bc even some marginal improvements in things like hotels/FLICA rules would lead me to recommend this place to new hires--I don't anticipate it happening in my career here, though, because we're still miraculously staffing the growth. Gotta hand it to whoever is doing recruiting for us--those folks should start an HR/staffing consultancy on the side--not joking at all.
I think they are just scooping up washouts from other airlines and old guys with the time to fill out the classes. Possible it could keep working as long as Mesa keeps spending the money on extra SIMs.
What's up Mesa pilots? Just stopping by to test out my new signature.

K thx bye.

.
How bout that new "crew pad" assistance program?
Seems safe

And I wonder if fatigue calls affect attendance for that purpose.

They've been doing this for new FA's for at least 3 or 4 months now. They simply extended it to the pilots.
