I don't like that term "Pilot Trainee"--it implies you aren't an employee until you finish your checkride.
I could see Mesa arguing that these trainees were not in fact "pilots," setting their pay longevity date as the day they pass their checkride, and not enrolling them in benefits/insurance programs until after their checkride. This was how Pinnacle used to do it, and it allowed them to circumvent any Section 6 violations and unilaterally pay bonuses/extra money to new hires.
By claiming that these folks are "trainees" and paying them via 1099, they might get away with it (unless ALPA intervenes and puts it in front of the NMB as a Section 6 violation never LOAed by the union).

Well, our new Negotiating Committee is going to call everyone. Let them know this is a serious issue. They've also encouraged emailing them rather than just venting on message boards, so let's do that too. When elections come up in spring, vote for change.
Good on the FO who called the company out. I didn't hear it; was he cordial or confrontational about it?

New seniority list and roster are out. Back to 1200 total pilots. January hires aren't included and it doesn't look like the Dec CRJ guys are on there either. 10 left between last month and this month, 5 from above me and 5 below me, and I'm about 1/3 from the bottom. Of note, the guy who got arrested in phx is still on the seniority list and is still on the PBS list of check airmen, but listed as unknown return on the roster.

Thanks for posting that, BobJenkins. Very interesting. Maybe when Jeppesen stops supporting the iPad2, I'll stick with paper charts until they give us all $500 lol. My pets miss chasing balled up approach plates anyway!

You're welcome. As for the Jepps, I'm pretty sure Jepps will discontinue paper before the iPad version. ![Smile](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
