An early out package would indicate the financial position of the company though. So if they are trying to shave some of the most senior payscales and offer an early out, that might not necessarily be the welcome sign to hire in the recent future as this would be a money-saving endeavor, and a tool to shave off some of the seniority list without furloughing. Not saying NJA is close to furloughing but they may be worried about how long this will last, and offer early outs as a means to further pad themselves away from a potential furlough down the road. Early outs would be done by seniority, not by age so this wouldn't solve the age problem.

An age 65 rule just ain't gonna happen so don't hold your breath.

Easiest thing for Net Jets to do is for its owner to lobby his highly placed friends in congress to extend the age 65 rule to 91K/135 operators. Then its out of their hands. Hard to argue that it is unsafe for 121 pilots to be 65 or older but safe for 135/91K. Both are holding out for public use.

An early out used with the other airlines have been for those age 62 - 63 or older.

How many NJ pilots fall within the age 62+ group?

Would not think there would be many takers in their 40s to mid 50s.

For sure. It’s the only way it’s going to be implemented. The company did lobby hard to try and do it, it fizzled.

The concept I have heard floated is that an exit package would be offered to those whose age combined with years of service exceeded a particular number. Thus, they would be able to replace high cost (both salary and medical care) pilots with cheaper, experienced, but younger pilots that will now, unfortunately, be flooding the market.

As to age numbers, as of late June, Netjets has more than 300 pilots over the age of 64.

Not sure I buy the hiring flood portion of this endeavor. Usually, early outs are not offered to then turn around and hire...

It is my belief that the singular goal of the company is to figure out a way to mitigate the issue of having to pay the top of the seniority list a pantload of money when they can't perform the mission of their awarded aircraft because of international age restrictions.

If they can get rid of quarter million dollar, limited use pilots and replace them with young, experienced $100,000 pilots, that is a huge win for them. Ironically, it's a win for the middle of the seniority list too.

Age restrictions are not the reason they can't perform their duties. The problem is cognitive decline. Like when you cross the Atlantic without talking to anyone. If check pilots would actually do their job, we wouldn't be stuck with such a problem.
How many passes do their buddies get before they're considered a hazard? ~ it seems
Not saying all over 65 are incapable. But we sure wouldn't have 300 to deal with at once.
