Sorry to burst your bubble; I haven't been at a regional in decades. I have many good friends who got trapped at them though; and a nephew trying to live the dream. I'll be retiring in a year or so from my 9 day a month gig to let you younger guys take my seat and watch the polar caps freeze over.
The hiring has already started (in case you haven't noticed) and continues right up through 2020 based on retirements alone. It really picks up next year to almost double what they're doing this year. It won't be the majors having trouble hiring... it will be the regionals.
That is why they are trying to get larger planes. They want the same ASM's from fewer pilots and less frequency. FTDT will hurt their staffing also. If they can get you guys to take more concessions in the process, then they will take it.
Most of your regionals are already having trouble hiring and retaining pilots. Perhaps if you were all willing to shed the theories of the past you realize that they can no longer Whipsaw you unless you let them... they can't run and create a new airline at the drop of the hat, since there isn't anybody to hire.
Legacy carriers are hiring FO's from places like Eagle. You don't even need PIC time anymore. The metrics of the industry have changed; but your thought process and bargaining tactics haven't.

They would be if they flew pax 121. Worst safety record in the industry. Hard to believe a regional has a better safety record, but considering you guys are the origins of the North Mississippi Flying Club, I'm not surprised. That wasn't you dropping the gear on video at 500 AGL was it? Or maybe you let that lady smack it into 18R in MEM.
