Right but except for that very rare occasion the "barbells" are terribly inefficient, especially while short staffed. Why have perfectly good crews sitting in hotels while the company is running around with their heads cut off JrMing people? It's so short sighted and is only done because "that's how it's always been" because some idiot 8 years ago decided that was the best way.
The reason we were told at another USX carrier is due to the way US schedules their flights. Since they aren't at all consistent you have heavy flying on day one and four and a light load in the middle. Your complaints were our exact complaints a decade ago, nothing has changed.

Would you rather do a trip worth 24.5 hours with 5-legs on the first and last day? Or a 19-hour trip with 3-legs on the first and last day? Less than half of the 4-days have 5-legs on the first and last day.
If you're based in CLT, you will not finish at 9:30pm on your last day if you started at 6:45am on the first one. The trips that finish at 9:30pm usually show between 12:30-2:30pm. Some trips that finish at 9:30pm might show at 10:30am, but that's less common and the earliest you will see. Trips that show at 6:45am will usually finish on the last day between 12:00 and 3:00pm. It's common to find a trip that shows at 9:00am and finishes at 2:00pm.

And i didn't say they started and ended then, it's one or the other but that still makes one end uncommutable which is what was asked.

If I have 5 on day one, 2 on day two and three, and 5 on day four, what does out matter if you switched that and got 24 hours that way? It wouldn't.

The 24 hour 4-days are typically 5-4-4-5 leg trips and just fine if you ask me.
Typically it's always an odd number of legs on the first and last day and an even number on the middle days.
The biggest issue I see with pairings, are low credit 2-leg days.
Trips that finish at 9:40pm are still commutable.

Personally, I wish everyday of the trip had 6+ hours of flying with 5 hours being the minimum. 2-leg days are more of a problem than 5-leg days in my opinion. Higher productivity equals more days off for me.
In other news, apparently BNA will be a mx base. Maybe TYS will close and BNA will open as a crew base.

I apologize, but I'm having trouble deciphering your first sentence.

United mainline pilots and United express feeder pilots have better schedules than US Air mainline and express. Apparently, United builds their flight schedules around their pilot schedules. US Air builds their flight schedules with no regard to pilots and their duty/rest limitations.
Although I find it hilarious you think the world revolves around pilots. News Flash, it doesn't, it revolves around the customer and the demand. US Airways tends to make a bunch of tweaks to maximize revenue where as United doesn't, giving more consistent schedules.
Personally, I'd rather have a more profitable company long term.
