Let's face it, who's going to wait around on furlough for a regional airline..most are going to find other jobs and give up their seniority. In the process they're going to get rid of all of our old, rickety, inefficient 50 seaters. Once Comair is down to a couple hundred pilots, Delta will grow us with a mostly new (therefore cheaper) pilot group.
Here's how I see it. Delta wants to do to us what Northwest did to mesaba. Northwest eliminated all the Avros and shrunk Mesaba's fleet down to about 49 Saabs. Mesaba then furloughed most of their pilot group. Northwest purchased Mesaba from Mair Holdings company and started growing Mesaba like crazy a couple years later with a brand new (cheaper) workforce.

I don't know the relative longevity of the Mesaba pilot group dbo861, but I don't understand how the strategy employed at Mesaba during a time when pilot hiring was relatively strong at the major airline level is going to work during a time of global economic contraction.
Those who are furloughed are the cheapest labor on the property.
Those who remain are not able to find other flying jobs during a time when the economy does not support expansion. Certainly there will be a handful who will say "enough is enough" and go pursue a career that has a higher value in society, but I don't see the conditions in place for a mass exodus of pilots earning $80k or more per year at the present, or near future.

Sweeeet!!!! Reserve windows are out, and Scheduling was kind enough to give me a four day trip starting on Christmas Eve @ 1145 with a 31 hour layover in AVP on Christmas Day. I want to see a furlough list now. Get on with it.

Any other furloughees receive a certified letter from Shrinkair in today's mail? I missed the delivery, but have the notice. I wonder what they would need to send via certified mail? I'm already furloughed. It sure as hell isn't a recall. Hmmm.
