True, true. But I think they are at least showing the feds that they are trying to be proactive about it. I'm not usually pro-company about many things, but I believe in this case, they are trying.

I wasn't saying people don't forget stuff. We all forget stuff. Being on a busy ramp or deicing forgetting flaps is easy. I just mean its surprising still because they made a big deal about checking the hydraulic pumps and the takeoff config ok as checks also for flaps.

For all intents and purpose aborting a T/O because the flaps are not set properly is near miss.

Not to stray off the current conversation... but w t f is up with the internet in Cincy ops? Im sitting ready until 10 and for the past 3 hours I think ive reset the damn things 5 times. It's in and out every few seconds... grr... Nothing to do and no early release...

Hilarious. Add another checklist item for a problem that results from people NOT doing the checklist in the first place. Now there are 4 opportunities to miss the flaps not being set correctly.

I agree that a lot of guys got used to the flaps being at 20 even before they taxi out, but that's why we use checklists, to prevent us from missing something. Attempting to take off with the flaps up shows that the crew is not using checklists at all.
Here's my questions:
1) Taxi check: "Flaps" How are both pilots missing that the lever is set to up and the indicator is at 0
2) Before takeoff: "Hydraulics" How is the f/o missing that half of the pumps are not on
3) Line up: "Takeoff Config" Now this is the easy one. Is the message there or isn't it? If it ain't, don't go anywhere.
I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how we're still screwing this up. I heard we're up to 16 times now?

PHOENIX, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mesa Air Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MESA - News; the "Company") today announced that on March 28, 2008, Delta Air Lines, Inc. ("Delta") notified the Company of its intent to terminate the Delta Connection Agreement among Delta, the Company, and Mesa's wholly-owned subsidiary, Freedom Airlines, Inc. ("Freedom"), dated as of May 3, 2005 (as thereafter amended, the "Connection Agreement"). Delta seeks to terminate the Connection Agreement as a result of Freedom's alleged failure to maintain a specified completion rate with respect to its ERJ-145 Delta Connection flights during three months of the six-month period September 2007 through February 2008. The notice issued by Delta is accompanied by a proposed temporary agreement pursuant to which Freedom would continue to provide Delta Connection services while the parties discuss the terms of a transition agreement. This termination does not affect Freedom's CRJ-900 Delta Connection flying. Mesa vehemently denies there is any basis for terminating the Connection Agreement and intends to vigorously defend its rights thereunder.
The alleged failure to maintain the specified completion rate in the contract is due to Delta's own request of Mesa to remove flights to benefit Delta's overall operation and/or to accommodate Delta mainline flights. These flights, among others, have always been taken out of Freedom's performance calculations in the past and Delta acted consistent with this practice and has paid Mesa both its base margin and its incentive margin after crediting Mesa for the Delta mandated schedule changes and /or cancellations.
We appreciate Delta's desire to reduce capacity as they publicly announced on March 18, 2008, but to do so unilaterally and in patent violation of their contract is not acceptable. There was no indication at any time from anyone at Delta that there was a potential issue and the notice comes as a total surprise to Mesa.

This could be a really good thing for comair as most of freedom's flying is in JFK now that they have already been kicked out of mco.
I know delta was looking to reduce the RJ numbers by an additional 25 planes but freedom operates more erj aircraft than that for delta. However I wouldnt be surprised to see delta put out an rfp and comair end up with no additional flying.
I could also see this as just a threat from delta so they can ask freedom for lower rates as they wont stop service immediately.
