Well, actually, if you want to get technical, Delta forced SkyWest to agree to this at gunpoint, as a condition of the sale of ASA and the ATL gates. Delta then proceeded to create a cadre of "new" DCI carriers like GoJets and Silver, and then forced Mesa and Pinnacle into bankruptcy, forcing their contracts to be gutted. So really, SkyWest signed it in good faith, then Delta did everything in their power to ensure SkyWest could never reach that goal by constantly moving the goal posts.
I know you guys think Delta is the be all and end all, but fortunately for you guys, you never get the receiving end of their shady dealings. But enjoy that profit sharing check.

So you're saying Skywest Inc was forced to purchase ASA? It wasn't their decision to do so?
If you don't like the terms on a car loan, do you sign the agreement? If so, it's no one's fault but your own.

So either Delta has had a large string of fortune for an extended time, or someone is doing a good job playing puppet master.

The 18 March class is full. They offered some a standby spot for the class. I know someone that was scheduled to Interview today.
If they are still Interviewing, it sounds to me like there might be more classes in the near future. But then again, there is some weird stuff going on with all the airlines right now.

To use your car loan analogy, imagine you live in a country with only one dealership who makes one model. They charge what they want, and you take it or you walk. Guess that's your own fault?

Well, you read too much into the wrong part of that, but yes, since you mention it, I think Delta "made SKW an offer they couldn't refuse". The part that was arm twisting was the second lowest cost. That part was firm take it or leave it.

Skywest Inc didn't have to sign the deal. They could take their business to UAL, CAL, or Us Air. No one forced them to agree to the terms of the CPA. Skywest Inc willingly agreed to the rate reset. They chose to do so in order to secure flying. Why would they be so reliant on Delta? They're strong enough to make it on their own, right?

Not in 2004 they couldn't!!! Revisionist history at its finest! At that time ASA performed more than 80% of the regional flying in Delta's largest hub, and that was ASA's only hub! Can't exactly shop that around! Oh, and Delta owned the airplanes, which became part of the deal.
