I'm not sure which bases you're referring to.
Really? I thought you said you worked here. Here are a few from recent memory, I'm sure others will jump in with more: DEN (twice), MIA, HNL, MKE, ATL, ORD, GRR, STL, ACY, IFP

Actually they did close PHL back in the day and all those poor SOB's had to drive up to LGA where they were exhausted by the time they got to work, then had to work another 12 hours. This went on for years until they reopened PHL on the 170. Yes, they could have moved to base, but to your point, it does happen.

I see what you mean. With all the problems RAH has, I guess it wouldn't be surprising if they closed bases again.

If you ever had to really sit hot or ready reserve you wouldn't even compare the two. My WHOLE month line was all hot at a previous regional. 5 days a week for 8 hour shifts in uniform which equates to 152 hours of sitting at the airport per month if you don't get called for flying. All month every month until you can hold something better. Your mileage may vary but I rarely had sits longer than 3 hours at rah after 117 (less than 5). Also, QOL can vary quite a bit based on your domicile, cert and plane, which is why you'll have people post with different experiences.

Less than five? Because anything SCHEDULED for over five hours requires a day room.

I've been here a little while and have sat hot reserve for months at a stretch. I'll agree that it felt like the biggest waste of my life I'd ever experienced. I'd rarely get called to fly and did mostly repos and maintenance runs. This was back when we had mostly airplanes with those noisy propeller thingies. 😃

Sorry I meant that I've had less than five total sits longer than 3 hours since 117 came out. I'm not counting delays but just scheduled sits. Before 117 I had about two 4 hours sits per month on average.

Not that I expect you to speak for your friend, but why would he choose Republic? I mean I would have a hard time recommending SW to someone with west coast dreams, but for someone that is okay with MSP or ORD I think it would be a good move. I just can't imagine why anyone would go to Republic.

Trust me I tried very hard to talk him out of it, but in the end the promise of home basing and bonus got him. He's been warned that it might not be as glamorous as what was sold to him.

Gee. Airport Ready Reserve at Comair is limited to 6 hrs, no more than six times a month, no more than two days in a row and no more than six hours in length! What a "country club" those guys have!!
