Are new hires required to get their ATP license before starting class? Or will they get the ATP when getting the SIC type rating?
I have the ATP written and minimums, and I heard someone at my local airport saying that Republic will ask you to get the license before you start class, is this true? That would require a couple thousand dollars that I don't have
You do not have to show up to class with your ATP. They will give it to you during your checkride.

There are a couple of differences between the ATP w/ PIC type and the SIC type. With the SIC you do get two re-trainings and with the ATP, you do not. In addition to the SIC stuff, on the ATP ride, you must also taxi, do a single engine go-around and aborted takeoff.

It all comes down to they only have a few APD's (can do ATP ride and full type) vs many sim check airmen who can do the sic type. If you don't need the ATP they schedule you with a check not an apd

As the saying goes... "Reading is fundamental".
Please reread the previous few posts from people that have just gone through the hiring and training process for the correct answers and stop listening to "people at my local airport". How more succinct do the responses need to be?!?!?!?!

If they are not PIC typing guys with ATPs they are going to be very disappointed come August when those folks become pumpkins. The reg no longer allows SIC types.

At least on the Republic cert, almost everyone can do an ATP ride now, not counting the FS instructors.

The new requirement is for the ATP rating, not the type. The guys that already had ATPs with SIC types before the rule came into effect are not getting PIC types until they upgrade.

This is the category I am currently in.
