They don't have an EWR base...PIT base does that flying. Commuters probably already have a pad in PIT, are you suggesting getting a second one? Or even if you live in PIT having to get a crash pad in EWR for cancelations is absurd.

Republic has a Q base in Newark. It just opened up. I was just giving an example for a base, and you're right, commuters would likely have a pad in base to cover such situation. If you're out of base and you cancel, you get a hotel.

"Per our contract, there is a 5 hour rule for getting us a hotel room when the sit is that long."
Don't forget that the 5hr. sit must be a scheduled sit in order to qualify, good luck fighting that battle. Been there, done that... The beatings will continue until morale improves!

A few more things about RAH from my personal experience:
1. The pairing construction is absolutely terrible. Many of the bases are loaded with tons of day trips which will be all stacked together on your schedule. So if you commute you will be living in a crashpad for a good portion of the month. Even if you do get overnights the hotels at RAH are an eye opening experience so either way you will be miserable.
2. At the outstations which are most of the bases, every trip will begin at 0515 on the first day and end at 2345 on the final. Enjoy commuting for that.
3. The FA's are probably some of the worst in the industry. They will constantly disrespect the CA and FO to their face, use slang and make political announcements on the PA. You also need to expect them to fabricate wildly false stories about you and go to the company with the lies to try and get you in trouble. Beware, one of them actually started the APU and powered up the entire aircraft followed by an attempted engine start on the 170.
Enjoy "Q day" on July 25.

2.I have two options where I am now. The 4:30 show or the get home at Midnight. Same/same. ( we are a regional, we fly people to hubs so they can get on bigger planes to go somewhere. Dont we have to get them there before the other plane leaves? Or after its arrived? So early morning or late nights is par, no?)
3. We're really talking about the level of FA now?
You know I was actually getting worried about coming there. But the more I read the complaints and see that they're the same Ive experienced or I hear in my crew room ( besides cancellation pay YES THAT SUCKS!) Plus, the more I peruse the other threads of the airlines you all say are better and see NOTHING but complaints there... Im feeling a lot better... Thanks guys!

How far do you live from the airport (I'm assuming PIT)? Usually when there's an MX cancel you get an 8 hour reduced rest overnight and then a recovery or ferry flight at 5AM. When it takes 30 minutes to get to the employee lot, 45 minutes to get home, 45 minutes to get back to the airport, and 30 minutes to get back to the crewroom, your 8 hour overnight suddenly becomes 5:30 at home. The first time this happens you'll understand why it's important to have a hotel room in the event of a cancellation, even if that cancellation may be in your base.
Hopefully somebody will remember this quote and dig it up when your base is closed by RAH.
When there are allegations of sexual harassment and your career is on the line you'll start caring about this.

2. Definitely true but that's why the outstations are so junior. I'll never understand why so many senior captains think its the great life. Especially the PIT guys which drive up to two hours away. Once the new FTDT rules take effect, I'm not sure they will be staying open for very long as somewhere between 70-90% of their trips will be illegal (particularly their day trips).
3. Haven't really run into it. For the most part the FAs are great on the 170 but there are always exceptions. I can think of only about 4 that I have problems with and nothing as serious as what you stated. Considering my last airline hired FAs off of Craigslist...
Honestly, there are a lot of things wrong with this airline that could be improved but if you come from another airline, you will understand that its pretty normal at the regional level. That being said its still a crap fest and you will probably have better qol at Skywest or Expressjet.

1. Actually, the hotels at RAH are a great deal better than the ones at my last airline. You should talk to 9E pilots about crappy hotels.
