Quote: As of this morning the FA's haven't been told. I realize this will impact a number of people who built their lives around the night shift; but for commuters this may be a blessing; with many more commutable 'late day one, early day 5' pairings.
Thoughts? I for one won't miss being lost in that labyrinthine Four Points in BVT at 4.30am...
FAs fall under Part 121 rules not 117 so they’ll continue to do them under those rules.

TalkTurkey, I am surprised they didn't just reschedule them to where the scheduled rest time was the minimum allowed instead of the higher amount I assume was still being scheduled after a duty buffer. Or had they already done that?
It's too late to modify the schedule as Delta already marketed the flights. CDOs might come back next year, the company just has to delete the rest period completely, and make it 12hrs duty.

That's not what I'm talking about. The minimum scheduled rest for a split duty is 3 hrs. Last I did split duty ops, the company was providing an extended duty "buffer" before the rest period to account for delays and transportation but was always giving more than 3 hrs of scheduled rest, usually in the 4-4.5 hr range IIRC. Other companies are only scheduling the minimum 3 hrs with a duty buffer going as long as they can get before needing to duty the crew on again for transport back to the airport. That is a 1-1.5 hr extra amount of delay they can take vs what was at least then the company practice.

I know, but NYC flying was even going into that 3hrs.

Read up on 117. The rest must be between 2200-0500. If you have an IROP delay a departure until 0130, the required 3 hours rest before 0500 cannot be achieved.

That's why you don't build SDT's in a place like NYC. You only schedule CDO flying. Or you accept that there WILL be cancelations in that mess of an operation.

I am familiar with 117.

You were obviously missing something if you were unable to understand the reason for the delays. I'm just telling you where you can find the information. Don't take it personally.

Right, and as Mesabah said the flying schedule is already marketed. CDOs probably aren't possible for the next several months.

As far as October goes, scanning through the bid pairings I don't see a large increase in long overnights. It seems they just added a few normal lines without worsening the schedules.

Yet there are still more reserves than line holders. We were looking over the bid packa yeterday... its stunning how many reserves vs line holders there are....at least on the 200. The 900 it's pretty much reversed.
