Seniority begins when you walk in the door.
Cadet program is nice, some HR benefit perks and wonderful recruiting tool, but there is no “line for a spot”. The program could be terminated by the company tomorrow.

Pilots fired from a defunct company are in a different spot. Sorry, I gotta pull for them.

No, everyone did not agree with you. Just your fellow CFIs with 1450 hours on the cadet list. You haven’t proven anything. Welcome (hopefully soon) to 121.

As a cadet, you don’t get paid, you don’t get benefits, you don’t even have access to SWOL and you DEFINITELY aren’t “in line” for job.
Cadets are not interviewed and do not get a CJO.

My friend, you are not in line.
This means you don’t have a seniority number.

A prior 121 pilot is going to be a much safer bet to hire than an off the street CFI as they already have a record of passing a 121 ride as well as the experience in a 121 environment.

Because the seniority that matters is when you get a real seniority number (married,) not a promise ring (non-married.)

Seniority matters when its time to upgrade and furlough. Honestly, it doesn't matter if you're CFIing, military, 135 or furloughed if you're not on the list.

Honestly, I would imagine that regional airlines are salivating at the prospect of high time in type previously qualified pilots vs. CFIs. Depending on the 135 operator, there will things he/she are doing will make a transition to an RJ easier than a CFI.

Im curious why these bases. ORD has always been listed as a junior base on both aircraft types, and it’s one of the reasons why Skywest is my 1st choice. Has something changed?

ATL and LGA closed, and from what I’ve heard DTW and MSP have shrunk significantly. The closest OO base to all 4 of these airports is ORD. Just a guess as to why it would go more senior (FWIW I’m not at OO anymore)

ALL growth is currently west.
Your first choice is whoever calls your number. And go where they tell you (spoken as a former mil fixed wing type).

hey Claxstarr can you pipe down about this and move on? The post that started this specifically stated bumping CJOs.

ORD is staffed similar to how it was pre-COVID while flying still hasn't quite rebounded to pre-COVID numbers so we're still running a bit on the fat side over here. Big displacement from DTW and small one from MSP brought around 30 into the base.

Overall flying and, in particular, AA flying in ORD increased significantly in March with the "new" 700s starting to come online. That's not to say ORD would be attainable to a new hire or whatever they're calling the people in training now but staffing levels in the base would indicate a further increase in flying, or that the company botched the staffing. Which is completely possible.

Who knows what they'll be offering base wise in the future. Things change on a dime. Good luck!
