True story. It was the hardest interview of the 4 I had just recently. Great group of interviewers though.

When I was interviewing at regionals Skywest was the hardest interview I had, but also the only interview I actually somewhat enjoyed (as much as you can enjoy an interview). The people interviewing with me were fun to talk to in the down time, the people doing the interviews were all captains I'd love to fly a trip with, and after the interview I got a really thorough debrief of what I did right and wrong. Most other airlines just send you packing with no idea how you did or what you could improve.

I had a very negative interview experience at a different regional which was a big reason I decided not to go there. I had a really good experience at the Skywest interview which was part of the reason I ended up there.

This may a dumb question, but what makes the SkyWest interview harder than others? Do they really grill you on technical stuff, is the sim brutally hard, etc?

As a military guy having never done these before, this is an actually serious question! What is the difference between an "easy" interview and a "hard" interview?

They grill you pretty good on the technical, especially if you've flown a jet before. When I interviewed there was a CRM portion where they have you act out the role of an FO or captain in a different scenario. I found it kind of awkward since I had never flown in a crew environment before my interview. In the sim they set it up like a turboprop pick approaches that are pretty hard to fly at those speeds such as the ILS 6 TTN which has a lot of very quick turns straight into hold entries. Most people in my interview class blew way past the fix on at least one of the holds.

The one good thing about the technical is that the gouges are spot on. I think they only asked me 1 or 2 questions total that I wasn't 100% prepared for. The CRM portion and the sim are harder to prepare for unless you have access to a Frasca.

Keep in mind too that before long newhires may well be put in the E175 which only has ORD as a base. It may have DEN eventually but who knows.

when republic got the AA 175 ORD flying, i thought i remember someone saying something along the lines of skywest has an agreement with united that they can only operate a crew domicile in ORD for United? So how could they operate AA flying in ORD? Are these going to be growth 200's or just some of the current 200's y'all are flying in LAX moved to ORD?

SkyWest got rid of all hub exclusivity with United after they loaned them a few hundred million to exit bankruptcy. This opened up deals with Delta in LAX and SEA, Alaska in SEA and PDX, and American in LAX.
