One of my amigos hired at the start of this recent hiring boom claims he's moved up 35% since November @ LAX, even with da Bro drawdown...

I'm hoping to get to LAX asap so that timeline sounds pretty nice.
How long was the wait to get into the sims?
I'm thinking that if I take the biggest gap between ground and sim it'll help knock out a month or two of having to commute to MSP or ORD. I don't care about reserve as long as I can drive to base.

Hah... That was my plan, as well, and I got lucky. A 7 week wait between ground and sims meant 7 weeks less commuting to ORD reserve from home in SFO. (I was awarded SFO for March and I was a Sept 14 hire.)

However...I got lucky. I nabbed the last spot among the deferrals. Plenty of guys in my class had all of 12 hours off between the end of Ground and Sim Day 1. Not everyone can take the delay... You bid for it. And in your class, your seniority is determined by the last 4 of your SSN. 0000= senior, 9999= junior. So, just be aware... The delay is not by any means guaranteed. And BTW, LAX is now slightly more senior than SFO on the CRJ. It'd take me another 2 months to hold LAX.

Sounds more and more like DTW might become a base soon. Also by this summer pretty much all the 2008 will have taken upgrade if they want it. 2011 new hires get ready for the upgrade its coming fast. The guys upgrading now are getting sim in SLC and CVG.

With the 175 will PDX start to move you think? Shooting for it by 1 year.

I'm not too worried about seniority number. What was the longest deferral? I know the delay is getting a bit longer. I'm going to move in May to LA and I'll take the closest base I can until I can get LA. There's no limit to domicile changes per year right?

Once you get SFO in March, is that temp too? I'm asking if it's only for March and they send you to another base after.

With gap between ground and sim, wouldn't you lose some study/sim material? Or are things very much solidified in memory that long gap won't affect the deferral. I Would hate to study things twice with long gap.

Thanks!

You can change your base every month if you want.

No, I should be able to hold SFO as long as I want, unless they close the base, shrink it, or Brasilia pilots bid into SFO on the RJ and displace me. However, nearly all remaining Bro pilots are bidding for the E175so that shouldn't be a problem. Some new hires who got SFO/E175 could potentially be displaced, though.

As for the break... You have to put in some personal study time, otherwise you will likely have a rough time in Sims...

I'd be surprised if they displaced people. I think they're smart enough in SGU to not rock the boat too hard. I think they'll suck up the over staffing and let attrition take care of it. Just my prediction.

Though I wouldn't mind if some crj guys came back to the Midwest. MSP and ORD guys are just getting hammered right now.
