Many people are waiting and it's not going to get any better. Was at the SLC training center yesterday for 700/900 differences training, and they're running 75 guys through new-hire class this month alone. Problem is, there's not enough sim time for 75 guys per month.
Sim delays for some guys are 6-8 weeks, but no delays for others. In my class, they had 18 slots for 29 guys, so 11 guys got to defer; they let us bid by class seniority, and nearly all the senior guys took the deferral.
The check airman who did my LOE said that they're now doing sims in Cincinnati as well as SLC and ATL. The SLC sims are running 22 hours a day, 7 days a week (I did my 700/900 ride today, and I saw the schedule) and so are the ATL sims. A few weeks ago one of the ATL sims went down for half a day and it threw the entire schedule out of whack.
There's a lot of movement. I've gone up 100 numbers in 100 days. And I believe there are now about 170-ish guys below me. (But I'll still be on reserve...)

I think we are about 90 numbers away from seeing junior CAs with December 2010 hire days. However, they have hired a lot of guys from December 2013 until now. I'd say the December '13 hires stand a decent chance of upgrading within 4 years, if current trends continue. As to people in my class (Sept '14) or later, it's impossible to say...

Sure man. When I left Lakes they had about 300 hundred pilots. I can count at least 100 that are at Legacies or Majors now. In that same time, I went up about 600 on the seniority list at SkyWest.

The upgrade time is going to drop 2-3 years because they didn't hire anyone between 2008 and 2011, not because the company is picking up the pace of upgrades.

I think everyone gets to enjoy both the picking up the pace as well as the moving past the 3 year gap of no hiring.

I'd say it's safe to assume no new hires will be going to the E175 for the next few months as they assimilate the Brasilia pilots in to the jet side as well. SLC has been chopped as well as LAX and PSP, and SFO and FAT wait their turn as well as SBP.

Just remember when hiring did pick up in 2011 it was a ton of pilots, 60 per class from beginning 2011. I'm 3.5 years in and 280 from first upgrade (according to last award, but higher on standing bid list about 300). If all things remain equal a year is probably conservative but I doubt they will keep going at the rate we are, lots of planes coming off contract and we know the whole speech about how we need to be more competitive...

I agree with SLC. But PSP/FAT/LAX have all seen more lines... The big growth base has been SEA.. And will double with the E175.. But the CRJ side in SEA is still growing..
