You and your parents, spouse and children, can fly standby on any Delta or United flight for free. If you don't have a spouse you can designate a companion and they can pay a deeply discount fee to fly standby. This includes any international flight as well. You'll have to pay some taxes when departing most international locations, and they can vary from $15 to $150 a person. Delta you can upgrade to first/business class for free. United you can pay a fee to upgrade, which varies quite a bit. It gets more complicated and I don't feel like explaining the priority you get when non-revving vs. other non-revs.

United upgrades international vary on distance, from around $40 to $250 roughly per leg.

United benefits are close to useless, given that UA flights are nearly always full unless you're traveling in October or February, and mainline folks get to bump you with vacation passes all day long. And you can forget about upgrades, except on very rare occasions. DL benefits are better, especially since upgrades are free and you actually stand a chance of getting a seat.

^^^^^^ This right here!
Why do you think they are so willing to give everyone United bennies and so stingy with the DL? I'm sure there is a price difference between the two of what SGU has to pay per employee. No problem paying for the corporate folks to have both, but not for the actual pilots that will probably have to fly DL to help maintain our flexibility.
