For reference, in a base of 41 pilots, there are 2 pilots awarded vacation per week......

As you know. I seem to be very "pro company". But I completely agree with the Vacation issues here. There are a few tricks to work around it. Butwe need this improved for sure as soon as we can.. i have made some suggestions on the sapa GMT link..

The thing is there's no requirements to even have x amount of weeks per number of pilots. So let's take ord for example. Base almost doubled in the last 12 months. Did vacation slots double? NOOOOOPE

And these are hard problems to solve ....
Unfortunately, SAPA took the easy way out.

It's too bad you aren't starting a negotiating round to use as an opportunity to improve these vacation issues (and other issues)...oh wait. Well maybe you will have the opportunity in a couple of years when your agreement comes due...oh wait, nevermind.

So really dumb vacation question but anyway. If I were to start at SkyWest in the next month or so my family is planning a big birthday for me next March. I am hoping to have 2 weeks away from work or as much as I can pull together. The family trip we are planning involves traveling to Puerto Vallarta in concert with my birthday.
So anyway I can get a week or preferably 2 off after only 5 or 6 months on the job? Schedule switching maybe? I don't care if the time is unpaid.
Thanks

Maybe. I don't think you can take vacation at that point, so it would have to via the bid, or dropping/posting trips. Probably cannot be done if you're on reserve, so you would need to be in a very junior base/equipment so you have a line. Try to bid for the days off, if that doesn't work you'll probably have to try to post them for someone to pick up. You'll want locals or two days in that case, few people have the schedule flexibility to pick up longer trips. If you want it bad, post an incentive...if you offer enough money, someone from another base will come in for it. $300-500 per trip should do it, if you need it that bad.

I don't even know when you start accruing vacation time but I can tell you there definitely won't be enough vacation time in the bank for it to be paid by March.
You might get lucky when bidding for March and not get a trip assigned over that time. (Unlikely).
Depending on you base and fleet, you might be able to drop it from your schedule for a reserve to fly.
Another FO may want to take the trip from your schedule.
You will be *almost* guaranteed the time off if you pay another FO a couple hundred dollars to take your work off your hands.
Those are your four options for the rest of your career. Good luck.

Option 5: call in. Staffing properly is the airlines problem, not yours.
