First off, I would generally not call CS. In some cases they may be happy to push your show time right by six hours, in which case your flow-delayed am day can now legally go past zero-dark-hundred the following morning. Then you get to fight to get paid for fatigue, where if you just timed out the pay is automatic.

If it's the start of the trip, you either have to check-in on time, or arrange with CS for a later show (see above).

If you're at a hub, you probably need to go to the airport or arrange a later show. Even if your plane is late, they might find a spare.

If you're at an outstation, and the plane is not there I generally stay at the hotel and just monitor the inbound. If the plane is actually there but waiting on flow you'd better go in, because flow can be cancelled.

Also in many cases if you call CS, they'll just tell you to show on time unless it would benefit them (ie making you legal to work late). If they tell you to go in, then you have to. Otherwise you can apply common sense.

Some crew are not comfortable staying at the hotel (uptight, probation, just don't want to stress). In that case they are more than welcome to hang out at the airport without me.

Also consider what's best for you...timing out before the day is done, or getting home that night.

Also...don't check in if you're not there, they will consider that lying which is THE cardinal sin at SKW (you'll probably still have a job if you screw up bad, just don't lie about it). I wouldn't check in until I'm physically able to walk to where I need to go. If you get in a fender-bender after checking in, you can't just leave the scene of the accident because you're late for work...
