Just my $.02
I think there’s approximately 20-25% of our guys currently on ExTO. In terms of voting, I doubt you’d get much support from them for a 10% assessment on top of the 40% pay cut they’ve already taken to give furloughees 88 TFP/mo when the guys on ExTO are only receiving 55 TFP. I’m on ExTO and I wouldn’t support something like that. Speaking for myself, you’d have to give the furloughees something < 55 TFP or exclude the ExTO guys from the assessment.

Post #54 he states that to pay each furloughed pilot guarantee each month would cost each non furloughed pilot $2560/mo. Thats a big chunk of money each month for a pilot group that a good portion of feels they have already given enough via the companies overstaffing. So I'm saying if the majority of the pilot group feels that $2560/mo is too much, then I would gladly take half of that on furlough which is what the ETO guys get each month. That would probably entice more members to vote yes to this proposal. Do you think more guys would be happy with $2560/mo taken out of their pay or $1280/mo taken out?

I think you should forward it along to your reps and the NC. I'd be happy to pay a 10% assessment during a furlough, and agree that it's smarter to do that than to divide the group over the open time participation problem.

Good work!

Oh! And post that over on the 2020 Facebook page too! Might get as many folks as possible onboard emailing and calling their reps in support of your idea.

I forwarded this exact concept to the entire BOD & Jon many months ago and never heard a peep.

Totally agreed. I ran the math and a 5% assessment on top of our regular 1% should be enough for 1,500 furloughees to gross about $3800/month. That’s enough to pay the mortgage & basic bills.

Sounds like a no brainer. And gives the NC another negotiating tool. "Either suggest something ratifiable, or do your worst and we will just take care of our own."

But there is no flexibility in furloughs, or more VSPs or EXTOs. But WARN letters are cheap to send out!

Just like Birthday and Anniversary cards from Gary.

Remember, furloughs - in TX at least - can get up to $521 per week. Our assessment should be enough to boost them to the EXTO limit and provide health insurance. We take care of our own. GK can suck it.

If you were to set up a situation where furloughed guys were getting ~55TFP/mo and SWAPA is assessing ExTO guys X%, you’d effectively have furloughed guys bringing home as much or more than guys on ExTO. That would probably not get a lot of votes from any ExTO guy who isn’t in the furlough zone. A lot of guys not on ExTO might also view it as an abrogation of seniority if junior guys who are furloughed are given a larger income than more senior guys who stepped up to take ExTO.

I would think there would also be a time limit. What if the furlough is ten years long?

Devils advocate - why should we as a pilot group finance the company’s problem? If the company knew we would provide financial support for their furlough...why wouldn’t they just furlough then?

If AA can exist with $30B in debt, how is it that SWA hesitates to offer a second round of ExTO and VSPs?

Its obvious the company has a tough spot. Overstaffed from a long time ago, vs what if this virus turns around?

Not our fault in either case.
