Did you guys look at SWAPA lance snapshots?
Yes, in my base, it’s purely academic, but it’s still surprising how many people end up opting out.
Out west, namely at LAX, the numbers have been a little more surprising.

I'm opted in but I guess I don't clearly understand the process. You bid FO into a base where you think you'll be senior enough to hold Lance, and then they call and ask if you want to when your number comes up?

I am opted in, but it's silly. You are long past upgrade if you are in the window for Lance. That may change, if it does, I will adjust accordingly.
I commute. I wouldn't lance in any base that I wouldn't be a captain in.
I flew with a Lance this trip that has been doing it for almost 3 years and wasn't eligible for upgrade with the latest bid. He showed me his board. He is doing well, but the last two months he can't give away his FO trips. Premium Captain duty periods are like fishing with dynamite right now, but you have to be legal.

In my case, I'm not picking up much because I can't deal with the repeated bait-and-switch. Guarantee* me that my trip won't change, and I'll jump right in.

Our Scheduling practices reminds me of the old joke that goes like this:
What does this masochist say to a sadist?

And the sadist looks at the masochist with a smirk and says:

I try to play the game and pick up. I haven’t been JA’d this summer at all, and I’ve been legal for all kinds of abuse.
