Not picking on you specifically, but there seems to be many "training capacity experts" on APC (and FB).

Southwest has twice the simulators online compared to 2017.

This is, and has been, the problem. There is a reason they are sending out emails asking us to recommend instructors. They need instructors 6 months ago, but they let them all go on VSP and can't get enough new hires in the door. If only they decided to address this last March when they couldn't get pilots through CQT and decided to kick the can until August. It's been the same thing every month since. They are limited by instructors. Time to start bringing line pilots in to teach classes and run sims.

I believe we’re hiring in the neighborhood of 60 line pilots to teach RPT starting this month. If line pilots can take that event we should be in a better position for instructors going forward.

Default Town Hall

The town hall video is out (check your email). They start talking about hiring/upgrades around the 39 minute mark. Grant Morris was laughing as Bob said 1400 newhires and 1150ish upgrades in 2021. In 2022, they expect to hire more new pilots and have twice as many training events as the busiest year they've ever had. (his words, not mine). They want to be a 5000 flight per day airline (around 42 minutes in).

All of this as they spent quite a bit of time talking about contract negotiations, so it could be the whole carrot vs stick thing. Love to hear numbers like that, and I hope that it all turns out to be true. But, I'm skeptical.

Color me skeptical as well. I do believe it is more of the psychic wage. Same old playbook. They'll grow if it works for the business and no other reason. I refuse to sell myself short for that growth when looking around the rest of the industry.

Yup. Total playbook garbage. I’ll believe it when it happens.
