If you are on reserve, what difference does it make if you get the extra 4.5 hours? You are working for 72 hours until you go over. Have you ever broken guarantee on reserve?

Not to point out the obvious, but most airlines do not have trip averaging. Most airlines, worst regional up to double breasted Delta, have block-or-better by leg...not trip averaging.
Again if you read the ALPA guide this is all explained especially the notification confusion.

Reserve Duty Obligations
When Scheduling noti es you of a trip assign- ment, you are allocated three hours to be at the aircraft ready to depart. You have 15 minutes from when Crew Scheduling calls you to return the call and accept the assignment The time you accept the assignment is when noti cation occurs, not at the time Crew Scheduling initially calls.

Correct. Communication is a two-way street. I can't be considered notified until I verbally consent (or check in notified via crewtrac).

Pay attention to your show time vs departure time. A certain PITA scheduler once tried to assign me a trip with a modified show of 40 mins prior to departure. When I called them out on it, they said "fine, we'll push the departure back 5 minutes". I told them no problem, they'll just have to post the delay on the website and I'll look for that to occur. "Fine, you're released from the assignment".

Note: the bunch that have been hired in the last year are certainly an improvement in people skills and professionalism. They just don't know the job well yet. As far as I know, the aforementioned scheduler moved on or was reassigned (rhymed with "Vabe").

There isn't. My point there was that you don't have to be at the plane until 35 prior. 45 is for check in which is generally the crew room but can be done from anywhere

Anywhere? No, not from I-95. Someone tried that once and was held hostage for it (see my post on the MCO base thread on that one).

The point I'm trying to make is DETAILS. Pay attention.

As long as you are at the gate 35min prior then no one is the wiser on where you checked in from.

Ahhhhh....but there is the rub....

FOM says that check in must be done at a sabre computing site, and IF it isnt available, by phone to scheduling. So the FOM says if the location has a sabre computer to check in to start a trip, you have to for checking in at a Sabre computer. Its ridiculous, I know

I dont go to the crew room unless I need Saniwipes, but knowing that (no shocker) our manuals and CBA conflict with each other should not come to surprise anyone.

The 3 hour call out. New guys please remember that the CBA says the pilot will make "his best effort to arrive at the aircraft prior to the departure time." So when scheduling calls you at the start of your RAP and asks if you can make it to the airport in 1.5 hours for a reserve trip, dont say "NO, I wont." Be smart and say "Based at where im located right now, I wont make it under 3 hours to aircraft departure time, even with my best efforts." Its how you say "no" but also comply with the language and requirements of the CBA. Write it down and have it by your phone, so when you phone rings at 3am, and you're half awake, you can read.

So which is it? On a/c 35 min prior or ready to go at departure time? I'm confused. Anyone know how to get my Jepp app unfrozen?
