Quote: 4 days off is useless with PBS. I'm in favor of PBS, you can get way better, customized schedules, Union will choose vendor which is huge. You guys that haven't worked under PBS yet will see that you will build your own schedule. 3 days off, 4, 5, whatever you want, YOU are in charge, not the company. so 4 days off is something we should've given away to get extra minimum days off. The company knows we "perceive" it as value, but it has none in the PBS world. Everyone will waive it, you'll see. To get the schedule you want, and trips you want, you'll do 3 days off this week to have 5+ next week.
We need to read the language and see the minimum windows each month, that will determine how well we can control our days off.
This^^^ your pilots will figure out how to use PBS to their advantage and will also figure out that having 4 days off between trips is a disadvantage.

When I held a line I used to bid back to back 4 day trips twice a month. I knocked my commute down from 4 to 2 a month. This gave me 2 - extra days at home a month. It also opened up more trips that had late finishes and early starts:

Start a 4 day at 5pm commute in that day trip ends at 7pm get a hotel next morning start a trip at 9am that ends at noon commute home.
Normally I would have filtered out both of those trips because they were uncommutable.

If I want I can put all of my flying in the first half of the month and take the last half of the month off. There are several other examples of how you can greatly improve QOL, days off and productivity with PBS and I guarantee most, if not all, of your pilots will waive the 4 days off between trips, and any "value" that provision has/had will evaporate overnight.

Agree 100%. ‘Four days off’ should have been traded for more minimum days off per month once we went down the PBS road. Remember, per the ALPA email, the MEC may rescind our ability to waive the ‘four days off’ after a six month trial period...(They had better not).

Quote: How is this cost neutral. Please explain yourself.
PBS alone saves a min of 20%.
ADD to that:
No transition.
VAC/GS/SIM drops?
150%/200% DOT pick up, is a concession which reduces RES coverage and CS staffing.
Still no info on Res drops.
Schedule integrity is a must!
No full retro, meaning NK saved millions for the last 2.5 years.
Their stall tactics are being rewarded by us!
The 75mil to be split, is a minute fraction of the new corporate welfare tax breaks.
No profit sharing.
NO calendar day min=14hr 4 days

This is a 4 year deal (which means 6+)
Expect a considerable pay disadvantage in less than two years and concessionary negotiations next time around.
Bendo will get another bonus if this POS passes.

VOTE NO!

Blah blah blah. I'm gaining at least $5000 a month plus 40k signing bonus plus DC (not my $) plus LTD and scope now. Show me the money. Or we can wait another year while I lose $60,000 and maybe, just maybe they reshuffle the deck and get a few bucks more. Don't be overly greedy.

I read the AIP as a 5 year deal. So, it will likely be a 7 plus year contract.

It’s a five year deal.

Quote: I don't think you understand how pairing generation works. Our pairings are generated based off our route network and structure, We only operate 1-2 flights/day between cities. We won't have SWA or regional style flying because we don't have 800 airplanes and we don't do 8 flights/day to 20 different cities from a hub. We are severely limited to our marketing and route structure. You are "guessing" the trips will change, that they will cram in flying up to 14 hours a day with short layovers. That's regional mentality. Personally, I don't think they will change much, if at all, If they could, they would lower all our layovers NOW to under 22, as to not pay us, yet I consistently get 22+ hour layovers. It'll be the same. They don't build super-efficient trips, because they can't. It won't change with PBS, There's no magic involved with PBS, same pairings, we just pick where we want them in our schedule. This is just my opinion. not worth much :P
When company puts new rigs in optimizer pairing will change.

Exactly. I also wonder with Jyri gone and PBS if the company will change its tune on overnighting in central/south america. I think they could build some productive lines if they did. For example, DTW crew does DTW-FLL-BOG spend the night, then reverse it the next day.. That would prolly be a 13-14 hour 2 DAY. if you did 2 of those back to back you'd be around 26-28 hours for 4 days of work and only 2 nights away from home. For a $230/hr guy thats a $6200/week. not shabby for 2 nights in a hotel.

FLL crews would probably soil themselves if that happened but I'd go for a trip like that.
