Attention new hires —
Our current book order takes us to 300 planes by 2027.
With staffing at approximately 16 pilots per jet, 16 x 300 = 4,800 pilots [approximately].
We’re at around 2,900 pilots right now — we carry slightly more Captains than First Officers and, of course, there’s always those that’ll bypass upgrade. However, anyone coming on property now should expect to remain a First Officer for many, many years at a rate significantly below other majors or, if you’re lucky, be an extremely junior reserve captain also making significantly below your industry peers.

This is very true and often overlooked. I've flown with CAs in their 20s and I'm in my 30s. If NK doesn't continuously add airplanes, the stagnation is going to get significantly worse due to nearly zero retirements for a very long time. It'll be Southwest upgrade times...

I dont think they'll be able to staff the planned deliveries this year without dumping the 319s. I figure they need to retain +20 pilots per month to staff the planned growth. We just started this year and they're barely hanging on to those minimum numbers. How long can they go on hanging onto the edge?

So how is delta? And why are you still trolling the NK threads?

I'm a Spirit FO, mid 30s, living in the northeastern quadrant of NJ and based in AC. I'm also considering going to a legacy with United being my target. Not interested in Delta (can't stand their pilot culture) or American (I've heard lousy workrules, miserable pilots, incompetent management, and several years for upgrade). However, if I don't get hired by United (and I have zero interest flying cargo), do you think JetBlue would be a little bit of a step up or purely a pointless lateral move? They have a highly convenient Newark base, but JFK and LGA are doable as well (shorter mileage than AC but traffic and high bridge tolls. However I'm planning to move closer to NYC and could then use public transit to get to JFK/LGA). I really like JetBlue's product, they seem better run than spirit, their pay is better, they're flying to Europe, etc., and I understand upgrades are no worse than Spirit and very quick for the E190 in NY. What do you all think?

I wouldn’t think twice about going to JetBlue in your position. Much better product, contract, and culture. There are only two airlines beneath Spirit and that’s Allegiant or Frontier. To be honest Allegiant wouldn’t be that bad if you like doing turns being home every night.
