Been here 1.5 years plus. Half of my class is looking to make the jump to AA or DL. If you're under the age of 40 or so you'd be doing your family a disservice in not exploring other far more lucrative options. Most would like to stay, but it's becoming impossible to justify.
I hope the CA I flew with a few months ago who was "Amazed we have a high 9% match" reads that piece that was just sent out

The update proves why a match is bad. You're limited to $18k from the company. Also assuming the match was kept with a company contribution on top of it you are limiting in some cases what you can get from the company because your contribution is diluting the $53k combination max. We need a big company contribution and we take our own money elsewhere to athother account. Btw for those living under a rock the company's contribution would be to an account in our name as well so it could never be stolen like a pension.

For those with conspiracy theories about our horrible negotiating committee I would think these emails showing just how poor out compensation package is would be counter productive to their cause. They are educating a pilot group that would otherwise be uninformed and more likely to settle for less. That said, pretty graphs don't pay my bills or fund my retirement or my kids college so it's time to put up or get out.
At least open time is back for March.
Noobs, new tough guys... I don't think the terms are mutually exclusive. Looks like I hit a nerve with the noob comment. I know a lot of the new hires aren't noobs per se, so allow me to better define what a noob is to me:
- If you have never flown an airplane for hire without a moving map or GPS... you might me a noob
- If you feel the uncontrollable urge to "shoot a line" because a moving map just doesn't provide you the situational awareness necessary for safe operation... there is a possibility you are a noob.
- If you have no idea what CLAMP stands for... chances are high that you're a noob.
- If tuning your own ILS frequency is an emergency situation... you are most likely a noob.
- If you are unable to track your own schedule without the assistance of the interwebs... you're a noob.
Now that you know if you're a noob or not, I have a question for the noobs. Once I get my ipad and trade in my old guy leather flight bag with tens of millions of miles on it for my North Face backpack with the earbuds hanging out of the side, is proper terminal etiquette to one-strap it or two-strap it?
