I flew MYR for the first time the other day and commented to my Captain how great everyone there did their job, and if only other stations followed their example how we could really start to improve the public perception of our operations. Why would the company get rid of some of their best ramp and gate agents? I understand there will be a cost savings in the short term. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense to me.

Because it saves the company money. If there is a choice between perception or saving a dime, management is gonna save a dime. U.S. Business Philosophy 101, if you made $10 last quarter, you better make $20 this quarter or it's a failure. It's all about making more and more money, to the exclusion of everything else. If they could outsource everything, including pilots, flite attendants, mechanics, even the office workers down in HQ in Mirimar, they'd do it. That's why we need scope protection, what good is industry leading pay if you ain't got no job?

If you throw bags or work a gate anywhere besides FLL and spirit signs your checks, you're out. Don't worry swissport is hiring for your job at half the pay so your welcome to apply.

Default Help with application...IRS form 8805

I'm at the end of the application process. The last screen takes me to a third-party website to do the IRS WOTC form 8805. On the Macbook/Safari, the website says: "your session has timed out" when it's asking me questions about WOTC. I've been through it multiple times with pop-up blockers off, etc. It freezes every time about ten questions into the process.

Anyone figure how to go get through this step? Don't have access to another type computer.

UPDATE: There is a toll free number on the bottom of the ADP.com screen. I called and they had me complete the form over the phone. They asked a ton of personal questions including SSN. Again, this isn't the IRS, it's a third-party company working for Spirit.

There are a lot of issues to think about as to why the company is doing this. Are we being bought, are we buying another carrier, are we just cost cutting because our execs are so enamored with their earning power? I don't know about you, but with all the outsourcing and not owning a single thing at this place other than cash, it gets me real nervous about the future of this place. The stock price can't stay this high forever.
I can see the company cutting out any employee group they can prior to a merger or buyout in order to streamline and cost cut.
Having contract ramp and maintenance is working ok now with new airplanes, but what happens down the road when they actually have to fix something instead of deferring it?
What stops Spirit at this point from buying Frontier and operating it on a separate certificate? Deferring aircraft deliveries to Spirit and sending them to Frontier because we want too much in terms of pay and benefits. Management would love a whipsaw like this to drive down operating costs.
There will be consolidation in the ULC market. It's just a matter of time. We are getting squeezed by the likes of SWA, Delta, JB. The only way to survive this without organic growth is through consolidation and to me it seems like they are cleaning house.

Every carrier would outsource everything they could to save money. We are no different. How many of those fancy Delta jets out there are actually operated by Delta. We are buying our jets now starting with I think 635.

I'm pretty sure that the gate agents in MYR are already outsourced to DGS (with DTW and ACY at the same time). Although most of them are our previous personnel they are not Spirit employees anymore.
