I was talking to an FO that got hired recently and he told me that he got FLL straight out of training. And that Vegas seems to be the junior base. Can some of the pilots that got hired in the past 6 month share with us how soon after IOE they got a line and which base they got a line at? I am assuming Vegas would be the fastest base to get a line. And once a pilot gets a line, is it easy to get a line that is worth about 90 hours of pay or to build up to that?

I am asking all these questions because, first I have to take a pay cut to go to Spirit and I am trying plan a budget for that.

Just about everyone in my class got FLL off the bat, but people who wanted DTW got it before training was done, a few guys live on the west coast and wanted LAS but haven't gotten it yet, (hired early march), one guy in the class actually got a line for June (first time bidding)

Once you get a line, it won't be built with 90 hours. You'll have to try and pick up time (100% pay useless a JRM). LAS and DFW have little in the way of open time. FLL always seems to have plenty red eyes open for the taking of you need 90 hours

Getting hours isn't hard but when you're in training for two months, the pay is bad. Once on the like you will be reserve and you will not get anything about 72. Once you get a line, you'll be too junior to enjoy swaps during initial open time. So best case is month 5 or 6 you'll be able to add red eyes to your line that was built at 74 hours to start the month.

LAS is the senior FO base but junior CA base.

FLL is currently the junior FO base and the base which you'll hold a line the fastest at this point in time.

Once you hold a line, the lines aren't 90hr lines. They average anywhere between 73-77 hrs, so your best bet is to try a legality/contractual conflict and trade trips to get your line credit up to where you want. I see pilots that can get up over 100 hrs of pay credit using conflicts and trip/duty rigs.

Hiring slowed for the past 2 months, thus movement slowed. This should reverse and most should be able to get the base they want before training is complete.

If you are making a budget, use 72 hrs for your budget - not 90. Everyone does not get conflict pay, 150%, or 200%, so don't plan on it.

Thank you all for your replies. I was thinking 2 month on training pay, 6 month on reserve pay at 72 hours, and 4 month at line pay where I can build up my pay up to 90 hours. Is that not realistic for a budget? Better of planning 72 hours at first year pay?
