They get rid of spirit and get pilots already trained and current to fly their A320! Then when spirit goes bankrupt they can get all these brand new airplanes for cheap; just the cost of a new paint job. We go the extra mile being paid this little, imagine how far we would go for an airline that paid like the legacies!
Well, I dont think their "Filling of Vacancies" section would allow that.

But I do agree, offer a guaranteed interview for any current Spirit pilot and watch and see how many would interview and leave. It would actually be pretty funny to watch.

AA wouldn't do that. They need to leave room for their 2,000hr "squadron" buddies and the guys who have flown Dash 8a at Peidmont the last 15 years to "flow over"

Legacy hiring has been co-opted by twenty-something's with BA's in HR from the University of Phoenix who don't give a damn if you're a current and typed A-320 pilot.

But they'd love to hear about your volunteer work....

Playing devil's advocate, what does it matter if you're typed and current? It's not like you get to go through an abbreviated course if you are. And there are no gurantees that you will get that equipment as your initial assignment. The majority of people mainline hires has never flown that type of equipment before and historically it's never been a problem, just as most new RJ folks come (at least the last 10 years) single engine prop backgrounds.

You can say if you're typed and current, and get hired to another airline flying the same equipment, it'll be harder for you to shake your former procedural habits which is a problem.

You hire the person, not the type.

I can see how it can be different in the corporate world where some insurance requires time in type.

Because it proves you have the discipline, focus, and aptitude to get through the course and fly the plane on the line, even if it's not the exact same type you'll be assigned. It's the rationale that's been used for decades to justify hiring military pilots. Admittedly not a fail-safe screening tool but IMO more relevant than a lot of the stuff they seem to be looking for nowadays.

You got something against hiring our veteran aviators? It's always been known that military aviators gets a sort of preferential hiring to the majors. Knowing this when you started, nobody stopped you from getting that leg up.

I think they've earned it after getting a college degree + decades of service, over a high school grade that went to comair academy.

Your first sentence contradicts your initial post I responded to, unless I misunderstood.

I guess I meant to say, what does it matter if you're typed and current on an A320.

It should matter, for a prospective interview candidate, that you're flying the A320 or similar. But, it seems, it doesn't matter so much, in terms of Legacy hiring......was my point

You just haven't explained why it should matter that just because you're currently flying an A320 that you're somehow more qualified/deserving of that legacy job than an e175 pilot.

The blanket statement of an applicant with an a320 type is more focused, disciplined, apt than an application without one is not really an argument.

Someone mentioned "amateur hour" above. That's our MEC with their BS plan of forcing Ackerman on us as well as our N/C not having God---------- clue.

Completely disgraceful.

Everyone needs to look up

"Duty of fair representation"

Ackerman is for himself and the N/C is for the 15 year guys. Wake up people
