The fact that we are smaller then DAL & AA by approximately 200 and 250 mainline narrowbody aircraft respectively and our projected domestic growth particularly in DEN, ORD and IAH. We shrank considerably after the merger, DAL & AA grew, we need to close the gap. That’s managements plan, will see if they are successful.

Lastly, you may think you care little now, but go fly a transcon or Hawaii trip in a 737, and then do it again in a 757 and tell me you still don't care.
Doesn't swa even do Hawaii btw?

I would guess that a pilot hired at SWA 20 years ago has (not counting divorces, investment disasters, etc) substantially more on average packed away in a retirement plan than a typical 20 year UAL pilot. Will that trend continue for the next 20 years? Who knows? While UAL is certainly much better off than it was during the lost decade, I would still say it remains more vulnerable to economic shocks and domestic / global competitive threats than SWA.
I’ve got a neighbor who got hired at SWA two years after I got hired at UAL. He’s 15% in base as a captain in DEN. He’s been a captain at SWA for 12 years. He darn well better have more in his retirement fund than me.
We actually made captain at our respective airlines at about the same time. The difference was that I got shucked out of the left seat after 21 months and took a massive pay cut. He just got more senior and made more money every year.
Would that story be same for two guys hired at SWA and UAL today? Time will tell. It’s a total crap shoot.

Can you guys give me a rough idea of when I could hold Denver if I started in March.
Also, what his the hire date of the most junior Denver Capt?
Finally, it looks like all the airlines are printing cash, but do any of you guys have apprehension about United’s financial future after what we saw in the 2000’s or are those days long gone?

For the most part, the QOL for 777 F/O's on reserve is first-rate. Eggs are often overrated.
