I would love to work for United but wouldn't be able to move to a base. However both EWR and IAD would be a fairly easy commute, especially if I was able to bid LCR. Thanks!
FWIW, the union took a survey of pilots before the negotiations started and used that as a basis for negotiations. The actual goals are only known to the MEC and the negotiators. Nothing specific has been made public, other than the union was looking for "improvements."

As I type this, there is already agreement with the company in the sections covering reserve.

We won't know anything factual about changes to the reserve sections, if any, until there is agreement on all the sections and it's released to a vote.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I didn't know if there was any anecdotal feeling on APC about getting reserve changed, or if the general consensus is reserve is mostly fine at United. Thanks!

Think minor tweaks to reserve is what I’ve heard

I have never been on reserve under this contract. I read the reserve section when it was a TA, but that was a long time ago and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast these days. What are the issues under the current system, and what would a realistic overhaul consist of? Also, how would that compare to what American and Delta use? What, if anything, would be the cost to overhaul our current system? I’m not trying to stir the pot, I’m actually curious what people want, and what they think is a realistic expectation.

Without tying to negotiate in public, LCR here is a non existant joke. Everyone is on long call, but literally no one, in any, fleet any seat, is on long call. AMR and maybe DAL (not positive on DAL) doesn't have FSB. We have them left and right. Rolling SCs, constantly changing SC windows, SCs and FSBs popping up at literally ALL TIMES OF DAY because the next coordinator sees someone on LCR sitting at home and can't have that. Those are just some of the issues.

I don't know about cost but even AMRs reserve system would be a win. Delta is only convertible to SC so many times a month. Anything would be better than the current system. I like our current contract overall. But the reality is, reserve was better in the RJ world I was in and im fortunate enough here to be off RSV and say I'd never bid it again on anything under the current rules. But the excuse RSV is a choice is a selfish one said by selfish people who are usually past reserve on any fleet.

Yep. If there were only one thing I could fix about reserve it would be the constant conversion of long call to short call or FSB. Where we the pilots screwed up in the last contract is allowing the company to have a shorter rest/notification period for short call than long call. It pretty much set us up for almost all long calls to be converted to short call.

With the exception of backwards movement caused by something like a furlough, or simply being a new hire, reserve is a choice that some make. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have a good system in place, but if one is not new, or moving backwards, the decision to bid a different seat or piece of equipment and deal with reserve is actually a choice. I could be a reserve 756 captain, but that would stink, and my choice is to avoid reserve under any system. I agree that a better reserve system would be a real benefit to many people who would rather upgrade and deal with reserve, but at the end of the day, for most people on the list, the decision to bid for a change resulting in reserve, is definitely a choice.

Which is why I emphasized I would not bid back into it. My point is using that as an excuse to skip over improvements of it are selfish. It needs work desperately just to catch up to others.
