I thought they couldn't do that without your concurrence (20-K-c-3-(14)). I know the skeds try to drop stuff on me regularly that is not contractual...sometimes I catch them and refuse, sometimes they slip stuff by me...

When I've spoken to Todd Insler and others about reserve rules I hear the following....

1. You won't be on reserve long, so don't worry about it.
2. Reserve rules aren't worth spending negotiating capital on because it's a short-term experience.
3. You are only on reserve by choice.

However, I've seen pilots in IAH, B 756 CA seat on reserve for nearly 10 years and now I see Captains throwing in the towel and bidding off.

Points 1,2,3 is the parochial train of thought (standard ALPA speak) and should be shot-down by anyone who has been the shock-absorber for scheduling for a long period of time.

Baseball, I've spoken with Todd at ALPA LEC meetings and off the campus settings, and I've never heard him say any of those!! In fact, he says there are going to be some good changes to Reserve. That was one of the biggest requests was to upgrade the Reserve part of the contract. Won't get into details here, but the abuse of Field STandby's and SCs are going to cost the company. So let's not put out misinformation that's bordering the absurd. I haven't heard this being thrown out by any ALPA team.

SC and FSB should pay 5 hours credit to Line Value. They wouldnt hand them out like candy if that were the case.

Just cap it. The schedulers don't care about the cost. Cap it at 3-5 conversions per month. (Or take it out of the scheduling coordinator's paycheck for making the FSB/SC )

So, to clarify....I've spoken to him. The IMPRESSION i've gotten is that he doesn't see the cost-benefit of pursuing any additional improvements to reserve for the reasons I've mentioned.

I complained about the gamesmanship going on with skeds on short calls, etc, and the comeback that I got was "what's your seniority", why are you on reserve. You're on reserve by choice. And then a long dog and pony show about it's short term pain, etc., as I discussed.

I don't know if that train of thought is right or wrong, but I do know this. When the music stops..........someone's gonna be on reserve, and likely it's gonna be for a long friggin time.

Thank God no longer on reserve. I wouldn't have any more sick time left.

Has Todd published any reserve improvements that the MEC is pursing as a matter of strategy?

Have we published anything that reflects the opinions as to our reserve cadre? As NO longer ON reserve I may not have a dog in this particular fight, but if I change airframes again it may be an issue. I'd love to see the collective opinions, good and bad, and a summary of goals and objectives from ALPA as to what we think needs to happen for our reserve pilots.

A few years ago, I got VERY cross ways with the schedulers. I found the reserve rules UNSAT. I also found the response from ALPA equally UNSAT as I attempted to navigate the troubled waters of reserve rules. Solution: get the heck off reserve. waive this, waive that.

AMEN BROTHER!

Here comes the flames. You're gonna get flamed for suggesting that. The parochail mindset is "you're getting paid already." Standby for the morons to attack your very logical statement.

FSB should be an actual, real world-real pay in real dollars event. No smoke and mirrors, no PTC, for FTC, or ATC, or ABC. Just money. Show me the money. Who will be my ambasador of QUAN?

I want Short Calls to pay more as well.

It's a 14 hour callout (to report time, which is an hour before departure) which means they can't use us before 2pm on day one. In fact I don't think I've been used on day one yet. We also only need one flight on company metal for our commuter policy as long as the flight has an open seat 24 hours in advance. In summary if you have a relatively easy commute with the 14 hour callout it's very feasible to bid LCR and not live in base, which is what I do. That's why I asked - I was hoping maybe United would get something similar.
We need all of this, should be the minimum we shoot for since JetBlue has already reset the baseline. I’ve also heard JB gets 15 days off on reserve...

It’s 12-13 mostly for LCR (and a few we get 14), and 13-14 for SCR.
