As of today the most junior NBCA awarded in this bid will be a 14.3XX number (I'd guessed 15.0XX) which is about an early 2023 hire, probably Jan -Feb 2023. Most junior WBFO will be a 13.2XX number which I'm guessing is a mid 2022 hire. So, about 3 years to NBCA and 3.5 years to WBFO (if you were lucky enough to be hired in the 2022-23 era).
The folks hired between Oct 2023 and March 2024 (the brief window when CA slots were awarded during indoc) hit such a jackpot. Then again, they will be on bottom reserve for a very very very long time...
As for me, I'm just going to enjoy being (approximately) under 30 pct in BES while waiting for next winter's vacancy...

More of a “good luck, bad luck, who knows” situation.

At a minimum it will be 2000 hires, that’s easily 12% boost in seniority in one year between going and retirements. We will look back at these days and be like holy cow we used to hire 2000 a year plus! 🫠the goal posts to happiness keep moving.

Shots Fired!!! (j/k) I mean, I'll admit I'm one of them. We had a lot more to lose so of course it was harder to make the jump. I don't think you ever upgraded at NK and were pretty junior? I wouldn't say I'm "grumpy" but I definitely wish the timing worked out a bit different. Of course I would have preferred the new hire CA Vacancy bids to go to guys like me with a significant amount of time who went through the Lost Decade thanks to Age 65 and 2008 recession etc) vs some (I know it was a small minority) of those guys and girls who held it right away and are mid 20s with only a few years in the Industry. (Im selfish, what can I say, lol) Good for you guys, you hit it perfectly but I hope you can kind of see why some of us wished the Short Upgrades were still a thing. and listen, I get it, nobody's fault but my own, this industry doesn't owe me anything. I have only flown with a few of them and they have all been great, please don't take it as me complaining they shouldn't be there. I remember when I first upgraded at Spirit I had F/Os who had way more experience than me who came from DHL and they were all incredibly helpful and amazing F/Os even though they had a raw deal. I try to be like them and not some miserable Ahole.

Love the honesty and truth to this post. It's about guys/gals in both seats being grateful for the opportunity presented- goes a long way. I'll be making the jump in a month or so. Happy for the opportunity! Coulda, woulda, shoulda though does resinate in the back of my mind. NK blinders really messed me up.

I don’t blame you hanging on as long as you did… I did the same lol. I didn’t want to leave NK but got real lucky I did when I did!

No shots fired haha! Just pointing out the obvious answer to the question. We all wish there were more upgrades 🤷♂️. And yea the company talked up a big vacancy… and this is one.

After 2026 half of the United seniority list will have 5 or less years of seniority. We have hired 8000+ pilots in 4 years, that’s 75% of the size of the new United at the time of the merger.
Trying to figure out how many years it will take to upgrade is a useless metric anymore.
Pilots hired in 2021 will be senior WB Captains. Pilots hired 4 years later may not ever be a Widebody Captain. It’s hard to comprehend but yes a 3 years upgrade is actually SENIOR. Just not relative to history as the older generation knows it.
pretty whacky

I think people who were disappointed on here were leaning into the whole "biggest captain upgrade for a year" thing and imagining more CA slots. I don't think this is unreasonable given the publicly stated goals of 2000+ new hires in 2026. Clearly 247 CA vacancies doesn't make a ton of sense if we are doing 500 new hires or so before year end and another 2000 next year.
It was the lack of slots compared to expected based on the huge numbers put forward by the company.
