(200 ish Vacancies I think) The CRU from last night said after the Nov Bid (around 100-ish CA Vacancies) they are pretty much done with NB CA Vacancies until this time 2026 (subject to change) If we are hiring 2000-2500 this year (based on the rumor mill )and retiring 600 pilots shouldn't there be more CA Vacancies? or am I missing something (Probably the case because I'm just not that smart).

This is all depending on your perspective and what you want to believe the CRU means.

It says
"As we’ve communicated over the last few months, November is our primary B737 Captain vacancy in which we intend to fully achieve our summer staffing demands. While there is a potential for a relatively smaller vacancy in February on the B737 to account for schedule adjustments, our expectation is that this will be the best opportunity for a B737 Captain role in the next 12 months."

So, if you want, that means there will be 1 more 737 Captain bid in February (potentially) and nothing for the remaining 12 months. Or that means there will be a not quite as big (say 200 instead of the current 202) 737 Captain bid in February (potentially) and random smaller numbers throughout the remaining 12 months with none of those bids having 202 737 Captain slots, so this bid is your "best opportunity" to get one.

Reality prob lies somewhere in the middle.

The math of 5 ish 737s per month coming next year says there will be smaller opportunity throughout the year. So, I believe the wording is chosen to allow for flexibility later without telling a lie today and is crafted under the philosophy of under promise and over deliver.

Guess by this time next year we will know for sure.

737CA seems to be too healthy staffed already (thanks to their 2024 mandatory Indoc Captain upgrades making it to the line in 2025) for their liking so they don’t need as many in a big vacancy. In 2026 United was supposed to be in its second year of “one plane arriving on average every three days” delivery schedule not starting it (maybe- We’ll see what actually happens).

don’t forget the goverment shutting down flights at major airports across the US. it could start to get really ugly if hakeem doesn’t stop pandering to the marxists.

It's getting real! SNAP ending is one thing, but cancelling a flight will probably make more noise on their phone lines than anything else.

Note cru staffing for summer schedule, there will be a drop off after summer but doesn’t mean there won’t be training for deliveries/ retirements

Interesting. So basically the news is that there won’t be vacancies to cover the full amount of deliveries coming because the company just doesn’t know if they’ll actually get here? Is that a fair statement?

I read it as either

1) they are somehow already staffed for a lot of the TBD airframes
2) some uncertainty about actual deliveries
3) The CRU has incomplete information

But there's no way that the new deliveries scheduled for the next 12 months can be covered by 200 captains.

Kinda feels like a 2024 repeat. I don't think they want to get burned by economic uncertainty, lack of deliveries or whatever else. They can turn those growth airplanes into replacements like they did with the 20 or so A320s just at larger scale if they need to.
