He probably would. He came to United for one purpose only. I hate to say it, but he did it well.

This MIT table accounts for "disparate pre-merged contracts." It's the individual pilot overall cost. Inspite LUAL's much greater number of wide body pilots, the total cost per pilot in 2009 and 2010 are nearly the same. It accounts for LCAL's higher W2 and LUAL's costlier work rules. IOW, the career expectations may essentially be a wash, leaning towards a relative seniority solution.

Coffee? Who cares?
Cheeseburger? If it's the "buy-your-own food" burger, that didn't happen until after the merger. CAL had free food and no burgers. Thanks United.
Toothless Southern boys? Who? Just because CAL management was based in Texas that makes them all toothless Southerners? I'd find that offensive if I wasn't from CA. Smisek went to Princeton and Harvard. Is that toothless southern?
Crappy service? Sure it's gone down hill...since the merger!

Our toothless southern management ran from the first merger with UAL and described it as hitching our boat to the titanic; but there were lots of tuxedos on the titanic.

The entire purpose of the merger was to convince Wall Street to keep the money flowing to UAL to avoid another BK or worse by promising it would get better because the management of the airline with reputation for good customer service was taking over. Talk about not meeting expectations.

OTOH, this MIT chart shows the UAL pilots working more than 10% less for this equal annual cost, favoring some SLI skew towards the LUAL side.

http://web.mit.edu/airlinedata/www/2...er%20Month.htm

Which is why manpower planning suddenly finds themselves short of pilots because this chart shows LCAL needs 600+ more pilots if they have a LUAL-type of contract, which we now have.

Biff....
When working your weekend schedule, try to layoff off the Saturday Night, 2 for 1, fruity cocktails special down at the hotel bar. Someone always has to be "that guy", and you sir, must have been just that guy in the wee hours.

Attempting late night soft ball posting's after you return to your room is obviously not your calling......However, pulling a "sweet" Ricky Bobby reference keeps you on point above the "G-Line" preventing a complete "FAIL".

Good luck with the hangover.....Still need help, give James "The Godfather of Abides", a ring. I'm sure he'll provide a cure for what ails you following last night's one man $h1t-Show.

Cheers.

Then you need to turn off your Bose earplugs, lCal pilots are hearing it all the time. Usually from junior Airbus FOs.

See what you've done? Eight pages of "... sound and fury, signifying nothing." If it makes you feel any better (or worse) it's a nice preview of what you've got to look forward to.

Nice call with TOP (I grew up a couple of blocks from Oakland in the 70s). Unfortunately, their heyday was in the 70s (when "What is Hip" was released), proving James point about the 90s. I still say the 80s (IMO, the nadir of music over the last half century) were way worse than the 90s... but I liked the grunge evolution (AIC, Soundgarden, etc.).
