Interview Calls & Hiring Predictions

Bunts1, life on reserve is not completely out of your control. There is the ability to aggressively pick up open trips in CCS at 11:00am the day prior, which works nicely in the summertime but not so much in the fall. Also, reserves can volunteer for field standby/short call in CCS. By volunteering, you can try to work your schedule to your advantage and minimize the ability of the schedulers to make life difficult. For example, I volunteered for a Field Standby this evening. If I don't get put on a trip, I'll be done at 1900 and thus I'll be near the bottom of the long call silo for tomorrow. So, I'll head on home tonight knowing that the odds are low I'll get used for anything tomorrow (my last day on reserve). They don't tell new hires really anything about aggressive pickup or how to volunteer for field standby/short call.

Bunts1, I'm SFO based now after starting at EWR. Although I was hired in April, I think I will be a lineholder sometime this winter if current trends hold. Ironically, my super genius plan to volunteer for Field Standby and then go right back home unused blew up in my face. Fifteen minutes into my coverage just sitting down to drink some coffee when the phone rang... then pushed back 35 minutes later headed to Orlando. Guess I should have brought a change of skivvies!

Being a Lineholder is great. I was fortunate to get a line right after IOE at my last regional. Hats off to those who've had to do it for years. A trip to the base I always had a bag packed and ready to go..just incase. Nothing is worst then trying to do laundry on the road and find out from a hotel surveillance camera that your underwear was actually stolen from the washing machine. But I digress, so not to get off topic of this thread.

A 9/22/15 CPO update,
United has brought 743 pilots onto the property this year, including 131 pilots returning from furlough or a leave of absence, and 612 new hires. The plan is to hire 191 new pilots the remainder of the year and 324 during the first quarter of 2016.

Latest says 15 new hires a week through at least March of next year. Then planning will reevaluate. This pace puts us at about 800 hired this year. Lower than the original 1040 they planned to hire. Historically hiring slows way down or stops in the summer months.

I used Centerline, interviewed and CJO in September No sim, just the tech eval. I think it was money well spent, I mean, at the very least it gave me a bit more confidence going into the HR portion. They provided some good input on how to represent myself and such. You'll get out of it what you put into it, it's just nice to practice things like being on the spot and bounce ideas and answers off of a real person. I don't think it's absolutely necessary but it definitely made me feel better going into the interview, I'm sure it's much the same with EC and any one of the others.
