I'm a new hire, got the offer last week! Ecstatic about it!
Hiring is robust, obviously, and most people I know (mil bros) are getting multiple calls. I think its musical airlines until you get an offer from the legacy, or freight, (or swa for some folks) that has a domicile where you want to live. Or perhaps they want something close to their reserve unit. I don't think many people are chasing the best pay.

Most of us doing the hiring process now at the airlines would say it is (by choice) DAL, UAL, and AA in that order. Based on company strength, future potential, junior line # growth, etc. I had an app in with DAL and AA, but United emailed me fairly quickly. I guess it depends on who asks you to the dance first. I still haven't heard from either of the other two yet. It was posted earlier, but if you get in with one of those three, I would hope over a career period you would be OK. But look at Eastern, Pan Am, TWA, etc. So in the end, it's a crap shoot at best probably. I wouldn't leave United to go to Delta or AA, though.

I'm not sure if you are superstitious or not...but it's bad luck to say you are a new hire until you are actually sitting in class. I've seen strange things happen over the years with friends quitting their jobs too early when they thought they had a class date coming up.

Council 12 Pilots,
New Hires – United is still engaged in hiring new pilots. Their assignments have been and are projected to be limited to the 737 and 320 fleets. Currently the hiring rate is approximately eighty new pilots per month and with the expectation to remain at that level until March, 2016 and then we will start to see a trend lowering the number of new hires until the end of the 2016 summer flying. It has been reported, but not publicly disseminated that United is concerned about the large number of pilot new hires resigning during training. Most of these pilots resigning are accepting positions at AA and DL.
