This is my belief as to what’s going on, fueled also by parts of China shutting down for Covid. Tome’s Better not bigger strategy might have turned out to be beneficial to us.

I’m going to start a UPS Hiring 2023 thread. Few Q’s for those with the data:

1. new 76 coming when?

2. 2 dash 8 options are simply options at this point, no confirmed rumors?

3. SIM building - expansion but is it new (additional sims) or a shuffle

4. No classes beyond Jan rumored or confirmed correct?

5. No confirmed or even strong rumors of any MDs being parked?

Thx all!

I will take an amateur stab

1. 28 767s. 2023-2026

2 Rumor is they are the 2 Qatar owned 747-8's A7-BGA, A7-BGB

3. Heard at least 1 new sim waiting to be put there

4. Peeps have Feb and Mar classes sked

5. I would say some MD-11s are gonna be parked…no idea how many...I doubt ATL knows yet.

Wildcard to the above is a potential new airframe for international ops or perhaps more 747-400s. I doubt we will reduce the total number of airframes going forward.

I've head the -400 thing from multiple, seemingly-reliable sources. Although this obviously can change over time, and it may have been circular-filed due to the economic downturn.

i would say the parking of the MDs is more than rumor. One was parked most of the year so it would have enough cycles for peak. If I remember correctly 3 are very close to timing out and will be parked after peak. This info has been passed from upper management and mx for at least 6 months. There is always the possibility some sort of arrangement could be made with PW but with volume declining I doubt it’s in anyone’s interest.

Simple math. 42 MD’s to be disposed vs 27 airplanes on order, those are real numbers. Some may say only the Pratts will be parked, but I am not so sure based on how what I have heard. I will not put it past UPS to park an entire fleet in a short period of time like they have done in the past. I rather prepare/expect for the worst and be surprised by positive news rather than get hopes up. UPS is very unpredictable and secretive.

UPS just added 5 GE-powered Lufthansa MDs in the last couple years.

You really think they're gonna DC8 that fleet?

Expectation Zero and all that, but there's absolutely zero cause to be talking a shrinking airline.

Ah I see…you expect the number of total airframes to decrease..I disagree but time will tell.

I agree, if for no other reason they wouldn’t want a competitor to get them. to

I don’t see UPS paying to park jets that could be making money, either in our network or flying AMC contracts. I also don’t see UPS selling a freight airline starter kit fleet to a potential competitor. While I’m skeptical that the company will spend big bucks to keep them all flying, I’m also skeptical they will dump paid for airframes with a track record of making money.
