Man... If only the legacy carriers had this much common sense. Or better yet, every other airline in the country.

I wish they did, keep the hiring of pilots to pilots, and only let the HR people be the paper pushers that they are. Good news for you, the rest of the world thinks like you!

Lately I've flown with a few of the new "older guys", and found it be a nice experience. Couple of them, I was the first CA they have flown with after IOE. No nasty surprises, the training dept. is doing a fine job, and nearly everyone has prior turbine experience. No horror stories.

With that said--here's what my 8-ball is saying: it sounds like you live in Dallas. Envoy is getting E175s and actively putting new hires in E175 classes. Given that we are hitting our peak size and don't have the financial resources to attract and retain >1,200 or so pilots in a steady-state, I think you need to really look deep inside at why you're considering coming here.
Upgrade times will be comparable for you here vs. there, except you'll be making roughly $4-6/hour more as an FO at Envoy (with a $5,000 signing bonus) and $10+/hour more as a CA. Oh and you get to put a flow to AA in your back pocket (however long it'll take is debatable, but many of us would gladly have that as a career fallback plan, even if it took a decade, which it won't nowadays).
You should also consider the fact that you'll be getting paid money in new hire at Mesa that is an active matter of dispute between the company and the union. If they offer you any money that seems fishy and is not mentioned in our contract, it might be unwise to accept it, imho.
I guess the real questions should be directed at you--with all I have stated above, what is it that's drawing you to Mesa? Were they the first ones who called or what? Not being confrontational--I'm honestly curious how people make decisions like this.

A phone call on top of your Airlineapps application. Pretty much all that is need to ensure you have the minimums. Of course, your logbook will be scrutinized before you check, just like airlines that have in-person interviews.
Another regional does Skype interviews. Saves money. If you think about it, the phone call method ensures there is no discrimination going on at all.

I actually don't really mind--it's kind of fun to play check airman/single-pilot IFR from the left seat every once in a while. Keeps the skills sharp in the event of an incapacitated FO
I do really wish we had a probationary new hire line Captain eval program like most regionals do--I think it'd really help the new folks to get some anonymously-submitted feedback on their performance during their first year on the line.

Pilots hiring pilots has nothing to do with the post I responded to. My sarcasm was directed at your assertion that giving automatic job offers to anyone that meets a minimum hour requirement without an in-person interview is a good idea simply because it's cheap and efficient.
