All the rest is controllable... Stress, alcohol, fatigue and emotion are up to you. Use your mandatory rest period to rest. Don’t drink. By the time you’re an adult you should be good enough at managing stress and emotion so that it doesn’t need to interfere with work.
Maybe I’m young and naive but I can’t imagine to many scenarios where I would be “unfit to fly” and also couldn’t get a doctors note

If you think about the IMSAFE checklist the only things largely out of your control are “illness or medication.” You can get a doctors note.

If you “made it” to UAL it was not under the new program. It clearly states sick calls during specified times are a reason for denial.

They're not going to kick you out because you were legitimately sick. If you call in on a holiday, they typically make you get a doctor's note anyway. I think the issue comes in more when you get asked to provide a doctor's note and then can't provide it, which under the current CBA would be considered UNAV, which would probably disqualify you anyway.
And even if they did disqualify people for being sick, I wouldn't want to fly for a company like that anyway.

I agree. If a company can’t accept the fact people get sick, then do you really want to work there ?
I’m a firm believer in if you’re sick, don’t fly. And if you want to fly, don’t get sick. Earlier this year I flew with someone who was sick with the flu. After day two, I had to call RR and get them off the trip because they were sick. And low and behold, they got me sick and I had to miss three weeks.

If you send in an app to the Aviate program you'll get a "Becoming United" email within a few days. Seems to at least be a lot more streamlined than the old CPP. I've heard of one guy getting a Hogan, but I haven't been able to confirm if he meant the actual Hogan, or the Becoming United Assessment.
