Most regionals do not offer a pension and the 401(k) contribution is not as much as what Atlas offers. Also, first year may be a paycut for most regional captains but year twelve's captain pay is better than year twenty at the regionals. Just saying, it's a step up. That said, I know that you guys should be compensated much better and I would stand with you in a picket line so that the 5Y pilot group would acquire a deserving contract.

The bottom line is "If you can get a job at Atlas, you are qualified to get a much better job at another airline".

If Atlas needs to add 700, and will attrite 250+...isn't this the best news in years for new hires? I would think the understaffed force would bring up actual line values, and reduce the number of R1 days at the end of a trip?
In our interview session: Classes for 747 and 767 available for the first half of 2017; second half of 2017 will be all 767 (no chance of whale classes). Also estimated 3 to 5 year upgrades to Captain in the 747 (I remember this distinctly as I thought "In just 3 years, I probably wouldn't want to be the CA flying into some of those airports!")
So I think mgt fully anticipates the coming problem of expansion and attrition of experience. How they can push thru that much training, that's going to be difficult. If they sign a leading or even industry matching contract - the attrition problem is probably cut in half.
It looks like pool times are reaching 4 months; so I am still hopeful to be in the front of the wave for upgrades - getting interviewed before March is going to make a large difference.
I drank zero cups of kool-aide in the interview room.
Applied: 10/26/2015

(I waived off a Sept interview for a schedule conflict, or I would have a 9/16 interview here)

As for management... None of us know what they're thinking. As they upgrade all of these 767 Captains they're just gonna turn right around and leave. It's a mystery to all of us how they'll grow our force 500 while typing guys in the left seat of a 767 when Delta, American, United, UPS, and FedEx are all hiring into the right seat of that airplane. Many of the First Officers will get a type that immediately sends them to the same companies.
I do think that being hired early in the year will work out decent for you if nobody hires you away before you get to the left seat of the 767. We're gonna have a record year for hiring at Atlas next year.

I'm going to need a minute to recover from these particulr words being placed together in this specific order. To quote Star Trek's George Takai "Oh my."
Ok, sorry. I think I'm catching my breath now...whew.
Seriously though, I would like to ask poolies like yourself - did they happen to tell you during the interview what you can expect to earn & over what timeframe? And what are they telling you folks regarding a new contract?

I live in ANC and am currently in the hiring pool. I got a call last week from HR with a 777 class offer for SA, which I declined. I was also told that I was slated for the 76. No class dates on that were given but they said they'd call later.
Living in ANC I assumed that I'd most likely get the 74, but that might not be the case. How is the QOL for a junior 76 FO in CVG given the commute from ANC? Also, will I have to pay taxes on the hotel cost in CVG?

Tenacvols: thanks for the quick reply. That's exactly what I plan on asking them. I just don't know if they'll agree to that. So, I'm trying to gather some info for the worst case.
How often do 76 patterns start and end with a deadhead? Is it mostly domestic flying or both? Can someone share an example of your schedule for the 76 out of CVG.

You'll have to pay taxes on the air fare to CVG, and the hotel costs associated with your gateway travel only. You might be able to deadhead in on a company aircraft so that would negate the airfare taxes. If I was in your shoes, I'd tell them that I wanted the 747 since I lived in ANC and would defer a class date until they can give me a 747 slot.
