The training isn't tough it's stupid and done on the cheap. The 767 and 777 are easy planes to learn and fly. Thier is no reason to treat new hires the way they do. No jumpseating till after the company PC at least 60 days after you start is ridiculous. Spending three weeks on Indoc and two days on systems is horrible time management . Going cheap on the sim time, and than only giving guys a few days at home after sim before IOE is a recipe for high turnover. A lot of better ACMI airlines are having a hard time filling classes, the guys in TUL are going to have to change the way they think about training or get out of the airline business. I have to disagree with you about the check airman/Sim instructors/IOE CAs as far as I could tell every single one of them enjoy teaching. They were the one bright spot in my time at Omni.

Thanks for the replies. I believe the nice lady in HR said that I would know within 7 days, by phone call, if I made it to the next interview. I wonder what the normal amount of days is before you hear something. I will say that she was kind enough to tell me that if I didn't hear anything within that time frame that I could contact her again for an inquiry on my status. In my experience most places wouldn't do that.

We also have a 90 day TDY provision in our contract that has been utilized. 3 months gone from home bouncing between foreign hotels is tough.

How are those paid? Are you paid all the extra days as if you had picked up extra time?

They are paid like normal lines. You work 18 like normal but your days off are between each trip. It's called a TDY but it works like a 90 day line because you check out of your hotel each night just like on a normal trip and drag all your stuff with you (or leave behind **** in the hotel storage room).

Well, I'm not there, but does it make sense to go from a job where you're racking up TPIC to a job where you're getting 300 hours a year of SIC time?

The Majors want TPIC. SIC doesn't count, even if its in a 777 or a 747. They want to see command time. And lots of it.

I'd stay put unless you really hate your job, or your commute really blows. However we've had regional captains come here and left shortly for FedEx. I can think of one guy in particular who's still here who was a regional captain and I think he's happy with his decision to come to Omni. No one quite knows the code to getting hired at a major, but it seems like regional captains are all headed there.

This job is tons of fun if you're good with the schedule. Most of the single/young guys love it.. The job, not necessarily the company that is. There's nothing else really like it.

I was never at a regional, so I'm not even sure if my advise carries any weight.

I think there is only so much TPIC one can build before it seems that there is no difference in one hour to the next (as far as résumé is concerned). I've been a captain for almost 4 years and accumulated 8000 TT with 2500TPIC. I think it would be a welcome switch from flying 5 leg days, but that's just me. I've never experienced the long haul international flying and I'd like to do it. Once a pilot meets minimums for every job out there it's pretty much about who you know or how you network when it comes to getting a job. I know check airman that have over 10,000 hours and 5,000TPIC that are still waiting for a call. It's not all about TPIC when it comes to legacy carriers.

My comment was for guys who don't have your credentials. If you have the time then find a job you enjoy. Your final point is very well taken. A lot of people (a majority who post on here) ASSUME that they're going to snatch the golden ring of a Major airline job.

Sure, there are lots of jobs out there, but the number is finite. A whole bunch of guys will end their careers in an RJ, like it or not.

Everyone here needs to repeat after me:

"NOT EVERYONE WILL GET A MAJOR AIRLINE JOB."

Period.
