So, the last of the new-hire furloughees supposedly went back to class on Veterans Day. Wonder how many made it back? And, when the next class might be scheduled?
The latest downturns at World, Evergreen, & Southern are a little disconcerting! I realize EZ & SA just carry cargo, but it still appears to be a 'lowering tide' in the sector. Any thoughts as to Omni's prospects? I guess with being a pax carrier, 117 is at least driving some additions to the ranks.

If you have any questions about Omni, feel free to post them for everyone to see or you can pm and I will answer what I know and find out the answers for what I don't.

The summer of 2014 will be indicative of Omni's future; after Obama pulls out the remaining troops from Afghanistan, then Omni's DoD flying will only be a trickle. If they keep (8) aircraft after August, then the future prospects look good. But, there is a very realistic possibility that many Omni contracts for subservice will be with foreign airlines who need lift, with overseas TDYs. If you're junior and a new-hire, plan on being away from home for 90 days right away after training---and possibly once each year successively.

World is truly a competitor to Omni, but not Evergreen or Southern. Time will tell about Omni's future prospects, but many posters above will confirm this: Omni management will never, ever share this info with line pilots/employees until after the hammer has fallen. Furloughs & displacements occur and union ExCo members only find out 2-3 hours prior; aircraft get grounded/returned to lessors and ExCo members find out same day. Management holds cards very close to their vest and won't divulge any info whatsoever that will allow you to make an informed to decision to start at Omni, stay at Omni or decide to leave Omni.

Actually, Omni Air International doesn't own any of their aircraft. All are leased.
5 767-300/ 1 -200 Omni Aviation Leasing LLC
1 767-200 Continental Leasing
2 777-200 T7 Aviation Leasing LLC
Stan owns several leasing companies; trains, planes, etc, including a few that lease aircraft world wide from corporate jets to widebodies. He could close the doors on Omni tomorrow, repaint the aircraft and they would be flying elsewhere without missing a lease payment.
Omni doesn't maintain spare parts inventory for their aircraft either. Other than spare tires and light bulbs, Omni maintenance relies on the "parts on demand" principle. When an aircraft breaks, then they buy the part. All heavy maintenance is outsourced.
Omni is structured so that Stan could close the doors tomorrow and walk away without any substantial loss.

You're right, but either way, Stan owns the company and owns most of the planes. I'm thinking that this still allows his cumulative business to operate at a lower cost than perhaps World/NAA. I could be way off, but that's just my thinking. Even with the pullout from Afghanistan the US will still have a massive military presence around the world that needs lift support.
I'm definitely not in denial of the possibility that the company could shut down tomorrow, but I'm also not losing any sleep over it. I like my job and hope it serves me as the stepping stone that it is.
