Of course in retirement you probably reminisce doing them as a captain and copilot: up-hill, both ways?
Wait till you throw some ice in ATL some lovely evening. Yes, it was uphill but I had a large comfort dog.

Even with a worst case 4 x 4 day month I’m still home at some point 22 days of that month. I’ve got more time with the family and free time than I’ve ever had I’m my life and I’m a junior NB guy.
When it’s going well it’s easy. When you throw in MELs, pax issues, FA issues, weather, diverts etc not so much.

Each and every flight we are responsible for a lot of souls on board and should be compensated accordingly.

My neighbor sells chemicals and has a way nicer house then me. It’s also his weekend home and certainly he is not working 60-70 hours a week.

How many years do we have to be here before we are allowed to voice our opinions?

Once you have been flying for half a century, you have street cred.

Dogs are great; now you can bring a miniature horse to match the shoes.

Darn! They still haven’t okayed my emotional support porcupine. Guess I will be limited to just my seeing eye lion. For the life of me, I don’t see why the FO gives him a double take when I get on.

He is very well behaved. He is even potty trained. He can get up and use the bathroom on board with no help from me.

I don’t understand why the woman the other day was screaming when she came out of the bathroom. He was sitting in the aisle patiently waiting.

I had fed him 20 lbs. of raw meat in the gate area just before boarding, so he wasn’t even trying to lick her hand or anything.

A perfect gentleman.

Time and redeyes, you can’t escape either. 21 years in the business and my opinion has evolved. Yours may too. Or maybe in your 50s with a decade or so in front of you, you’re still wearing a Superman cape. My money is capeless. I’m not even senior and I’m rolling out of the throttle mashing the clutch. A decade at the regionals took my bravado a long time ago.

Nice rodomontade though.

I agree that if you just break out 737’s SWA would probably have an edge but there is no way to just compare 737’s since our 737’s are just part of the whole DAL system, whereas at SWA they are the whole system.

At SWA every Pilot is qualified on the same aircraft. 1 long school for their whole career. This provides tremendous efficicienes. You can not hold that fact that we are not as efficient because we are supporting a much more complex and inefficient system. Management is constantly touting their superior managerial acumen “putting the right aircraft on the right route” to maximize revenue.

Well the inefficiencies of our system are what allow us to obtain that revenue premium. It is unfair to brag about the revenue that our complex fleet brings in and on the other hand bemoan the “inefficient” Delta Pilots.

In any case back to the original point - there are many ways to measure productivity. By conceding block hours are the holy grail of productivity we are doing our Pilot group a disservice.
