I don’t think he is talking about years here, I think he is more talking about years of abuse. Anyone hired since 07 have only had pay raises and semi forward progress with each year and contract. It’s real easy to talk about how easy it is in this industry right now, and I hope that continues forever, however it hasn’t been so easy.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good internet vent.

I could see someone taking half of what you once had, and then using that as a carrot to extract more as abuse. It's not physical abuse but it's abuse when the same treatment isn't applied to other employees. What is the percentage increase from 2004 or the low to now for other employee groups? Did they have their health care degraded, lose vacation or lose control of their work schedules? Comparing what we had then and now and what they had then and now, we are still behind or being forced to still suffer under the bankruptcy reset. Abused works for me.
BTW they have PTO (paid time off) that if not used can be cashed in every year.

If it weren't for the stock options, 7-week vacays, and supplemental housing pay. (Think NYC) They would be in Lemming line.

Health plans are also a much higher percentage cut for non contracts. 600 a month extra for someone making 40 to 60K a year hurts a lot more than for someone making 300K a year.

If you count DSS or DGS the other employees have had it worse because many of their mainline Delta jobs got farmed permanently out to the above at a far lower wage and benefit matrix. Their mainline job loss was huge. In addition the other employees had the exact same retirement we had. Their new retirement pays a much lower percentage than ours off a much lower wage base. It’s a far larger retirement cut than we took.

Mainline jobs becoming DGS part time jobs is the most heinous abuse. Every position at Delta pays more than it did in 2004. Ours are just lagging.

verb
əˈbyo͞oz/Submit
1.
use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse.
So would what the company did during those years meet this definition? That is for the original poster to decide for himself, not you. I think his original point was that it wasn’t always so rosy. Heck for some people, the 3 years after 911 were their best. They had C2K rates and they could GS their butts off. Again it just depends on what side of the fence you were on at the time. Furlough fence that is.

As for the abuse verbiage, we'll just have to agree to disagree. Individual cases, perhaps. Taking the original point of "give it some time and you too will experience the same abuse the rest of us have" and it was all a bit much.
